El Hierro recorded 28 earthquakes so far of day The recorded earthquakes ranging from 1.9 and 2.6 magnitude on the Richter scale
18.03.2013 | 18:51 EP volcano monitoring network monitoring 24 hours a National Geographic Institute (IGN) has recorded on the island of El Hierro on Monday a total of 28 earthquakes of between 1.9 and 2.6 magnitude on the Richter scale, although none felt by population.
The largest of the quakes, which struck at 14.29 pm, had a magnitude of 2.6 degrees, and occurred west of the town of Frontera, on land, 20 kilometers deep.
At 14.42 hours was 1.9 degrees recorded one of just two miles deep northwest of Frontera. The other earthquakes occurred mainly northwest of town, and one southwest of El Pinar.
On Sunday there were three earthquakes, the largest of 3.8 degrees west of Frontera, on land, at a depth of 13 kilometers.
Yeah. IMO, increased geological actions affecting El Hierro are at work on other structures, worldwide, as well. El Hierro just happens to be closest to the action and more susceptible.
The island of El Hierro is the proverbial canary in the coalmine... ;)
Pretty amazing, isn't it! Thanks for the link. Not sure what to make of it, mostly due to my ignorance of the mechanism. lol
4.9 not sure of the depth quite yet....
10km but more importantly far remove north and east from the main swarm.
you will find this totally interesting.
We need sensitive CO2 and electromagnetic sensors in place now and start determining the mechanism at work here.
Totally agree, if this study is even close to accurate there would seem to be a detectable element here for sure.
