Oh, and if you're talking about the rockfall image, definitely!

If I lived on the seaward side, in relation the the largest mass of the island, I'd damn sure be moving to the other side, at least temporarily!

"More rockfall has been reported in the roads of Frontera-Sabinosa, some of the rocks quite large, and personal is now working onsite to clear them."

That's the area in the image below where remenants of the most recent large caldera can be seen on the northside of the island. From goggle maps, it looks like a number of major collapses of that area have occured in the past.

It's also the area where activity began in 2012.

Here is a graph of CO2 emissions around the island. A long lag exists (maybe the reader was fired), but emissions are now 1650 tons per day, compared to a normal reading of around 350 tons per day.

Ice core records always show an increase in CO2 levels at the start and post start. This all coincides with my pet theory that the earth goes thru periodic increases in geological activity, and we're seeing just such an increase now. This increased activity is the major contributor to increased atmospheric CO2 levels that are being reported, IMO. ;)

I agree...even with this volcano it certainly is on defined timetable as to it’s ebb and flow....

Yep, the folks living on El Hierro came to mind when I saw that.

Latest:

"2013-03-28 23:20 UTC - For the first time since the start of the eruptive process in 2011, there was a power failure in the western part of the island. It only lasted for a couple of minutes, but the people living there are scared that it would produce again during the night. A lot of them have now torchlights and candles near their bed in case of …
- Rockfall has been reported in different areas of the western part. "

Ran across this update on the hotspot in the Pacific. They say, "Our data show that mantle upwelling beneath the mid-ocean ridge creates a deeper and broader melting region than previously thought." I can't help but wonder if the reason it's deeper and broader is because it's growing? lol

Interesting technology they're using, btw, marine electromagnetic technology from the 60's. I remember a older division chief of mine telling stories about towing sonar arrays all over the pacific behind a destroyer. lol

Looks like from the pics that a whole section could let go at any time.
Outcrop just waiting for enough *shake*.
Any folks still around there are pure crazy.

Yep, and may not give much warning when it lets go, and slides off into the sea. It has happened a number of times in the past and will happen again, sooner or later.

When you watch that video one thing that is interesting is that when the sills were filling the last eruptive period, you could almost pick out the plumbing dikes it was using.

This inflation seems to be more diffuse.?

Okay there are reports that the El Heirro shifted east thanks to the inflation to it’s west.

What I am wondering is this...is this volcanic/tectonic action putting any stress on the azores-gibralter fault?
