'Autopsy' Is the Right Word: RNC Releases Report on Party's Future

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has released its long-awaited study on the 2012 elections, with detailed recommendations about how the party can improve its future.

The report, entitled the “Growth and Opportunity Project,” was compiled by a special committee consisting of former Gov. Haley Barbour of Mississippi, veteran GOP adviser Sally Bradshaw, former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer, Puerto Rico committeewoman Zori Fonalledas, and South Carolina committeeman Glenn McCall.

For several months, RNC chairman Reince Priebus has referred to the committee’s report on the state of the party as an “autopsy.” It is an apt description, because the 100-page report has as much chance of reviving the GOP as an autopsy has of reviving a corpse. The report effectively suggests Republicans try to compete with Democrats by imitating them--not just in tactics and appearance, but in policy and ideas as well.

Barbour is showing his true stripes.

This is incorrect. It's actually Henry Barbour, Haley's nephew.

Unfortunately, the pure GOP-E content of the report shows the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

GOP Autopsy Report Is Out And It's...Meh

Honestly they could have saved a lot of time on the messaging section and just reprinted this post from a week after the election.

You want a free idea on making the GOP more friendly to new voters...move the RNC HQ out of DC and into Pittsburgh or Cleveland. Don't just say you're going to be different, actually BE different.

The "what went wrong" stuff is easy, everyone can see it. The how do you fix it is harder. All this report offers is some gentle prods that basically amount to "we need to rebuild and retrain our base to deal with the modern world".

It's exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from a committee made up of a lobbyist, a long time RNC insider, a "veteran strangest and and top ally of Jeb Bush", and a member of W. Bush's team, Ari Fleischer. Only one member seems to have any grassroots credibility.

This is a pretty vanilla report. That would be fine because that's what these things are. The problem is the RNC hyped it as some important moment in the history of the GOP's renewal. Once again, they are over promising and under delivering. Stopping that bit of terrible marketing would be a major step in the right direction.

” That’s what a big chunk of conservatism is today. And many ‘conservatives’ proved it with their harping that ‘principles don’t matter’. Really? You have a GOP FILLED TO THE BRIM with those very same unprincipled people they demanded we vote for! How the frig is THAT working out for everyone? With one cave after slap in the face after another?”

Conservatives have been purged from the Republican Party. IMHO Bohner, McConnell, and the whole RNC “RINOplex” might as well be on the Obama Administration payroll.

Sadly, it’s my pleasure. I wish the Republican Party would condescend to care about its base.

One of the WORST Governors our State ever endured... yes he handled Katrina well... but the rest of his governance was a DISASTER!

The GOP wants a slightly different version of what the dems do. That is a conclusion one only do a direct comparison to come to. If I want Dem, I’ll vote for the full deal. I don’t. So I am not going to ever vote Dem lite and I don’t care how many Freepers in name only scream about it.

Considering how many fools are steadfast in their GOP support here and across the net, I have been convinced that we are the last of the breed and we will lose. But at least we will lose with honor, while the rest will have to live with themselves forever.

So be it.

Yeah, you’re probably right. I tend to give Priebus too much credit...
