Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon who drew conservative attention following his controversial National Prayer Breakfast speech, said on Saturday that he's retiring from medicine and suggested he could enter politics.
In a question-and-answer session following his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Carson announced that he is retiring from medicine because he wants "to quit while I'm at the top of my game, and there are so many more things that could be done."
Asked whether he planned to run for office, he demurred, saying he wants to focus on education but at one point added, "but who knows what will happen?"
Carson, during his speech, received a standing ovation and enthusiastic applause from the crowd when he speculated what might happen if "you magically put me in the White House."
Carson emerged as a player in the conservative movement after his speech at this year's National Prayer Breakfast, during which he criticized a number of President Obama's policies as the president sat nearby.
Critics called the remarks inappropriate at an ostensibly nonpartisan event, but Carson defended them, saying that "I don't believe that expressing your opinion, regardless of who's there, is being rude."
Please, oh please let him run.
And please, oh please, let we conservatives successfully defend him against the slime that the lib-O-crats will generate against him.
They hate success, they hate intelligence, and they really really hate any African-American who has done it on their own vs the liberal quota system that generates hand stupid hand puppets like the Obamadork.
Not president but he is a fine speaker.
You do realize that he’s already said he supports “reasonable” gun restrictions.
Best line in the speech...... “economics? it’s not brain surgery!!”
It’s going to be entertaining to watch liberal hypocrisy fly in the next few years. We’ve got Rubio, Cruz, and Carson as strong contenders leading up to 2016. Who do the liberals offend - blacks or Hispanics?
Let’s maybe throw a woman or two into the mix like Martinez or Haley.
Or how about Jindal?
Liberals will be playing whack a mole.
I love to see themselves twisted into pretzels explaining how a conservative can’t really be black or Hispanic or a woman or any sort of so called minority.
Meanwhile, who do they have leading the pack? Shrillary and BiteMe.
He has my vote.
Here’s an easy prediction. Beginning from the moment of his announcement the left will attack him and try to destroy him with lies. The left hates normal people, but it hates “minorities” who stray off the plantation even more.
It’s a safe bet that they will make up something, broadcast it in the media, and attempt to destroy his reputation. The absolute worst kind of evil is that which destroys good people.
Run, Ben, Run!
Hadn’t heard that about Carson’s stance on gun control, but it would serve us all well to thoroughly research these folks before getting overly excited about them.
Personally, I think the dems now have a permanent lock on the White House, but a good, conservative GOP nominee would be helpful for the down ticket races.
Maryland is not the most fertile ground for Republican candidates.
I’m not ready to chase him off the stage or anything because we need speakers like him. His stance is that your ability to own a weapon should depend on where you live.
According to this, [which was a link from your original source]
He says he would 'rather not' have people in cities own semi-automatic weapons, but ultimately, its an issue for local governments to decide.
I’m kind of hoping we can educate him on all things 2nd Amendment. He seems a reasonable enough man so I think he might see the light.
No sale, I like the way he speaks, but any one that doesn’t recognize that your ability to own a weapon is settled and guaranteed by the Constitution has no business running for President.
They already have. Starting right after his speech. The usual complaints..Uncle Tom, Oreo, etc etc.
Birthers would say that four of your six candidates aren’t natural born citizens.
You'll get no disagreement from me. The only reason for my post is that there is a world of difference between someone saying "I'd rather you didn't" and "You shouldn't be able to".
Just saying something doesn't make it so. No court is going to back them up, but they'll keep on deluding themselves anyhow.
