Anti-Weed N.Y. Assemblyman Steve Katz Charged With Possession (Republican)
New York Magazine ^ | 3/16/13 | Joe Coscarelli

Posted on 03/16/2013 3:00:43 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Westchester County Republican Assemblyman Steve Katz was pulled over yesterday morning for speeding and hit with a possession charge when an officer recognized the distinct smell of marijuana. "He was alone and cooperative," said the police, who ticketed him for a small baggie and going 80 in a 65 mph zone. Katz was oddly arrested twice for allegedly mishandling dogs when he worked as a veterinarian, but both cases were dismissed. Last year, he voted against legalizing medical marijuana, although maybe this will be his Portman moment. The assemblyman sits on Assembly committees for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, as well as Higher Education.

Illinois?

As I said, I have nothing to hide. I tell no lies about my state.

Maybe Fightin Whitey is from Delaware.

In Feb of 2012, Gov. Markell wrote,

“”I am very disappointed by the change in policy at the federal department of justice, as it requires us to stop implementation of the compassion centers. To do otherwise would put our state employees in legal jeopardy and I will not do that. Unfortunately, this shift in the federal position will stand in the way of people in pain receiving help. Our law sought to provide that in a manner that was both highly regulated and safe.”

Although the Governor suspended implementation of the compassion centers, Senate Bill 17 contains a provision that allows for an affirmative defense for individuals “in possession of no more than six ounces of usable marijuana.”]

Other than that, I haven’t been able to find anything from any state that would indicate their medical marijuana laws have been recinded or altered to any significant degree.

I too have never heard if any state changing their mind once they went down this road.

But again, maybe this change is what FW was referring to.

Maybe - or maybe he thinks repeal went through in Alaska.

Look at you. You are so obsessed that someone—in fact a MAJORITY of voters in a whole STATE—doesn’t share your passion for ganja that you are willing to pick and poke and dwell and scratch...for WHAT?

Do you not have your weed today? I’m sure you do. Why would you give a rat’s ass about what I think or where I think it?

Who’s the frantic nanny here?

Good gosh, sit back, calm down and have another pipe, Buzzy.

By tomorrow you will have forgotten the whole thing.

“Apparently you have never had chemotherapy and unable to ingest anything without throwing it up.”

I’d have some sympathy for your movement if it hadn’t been hijacked by the druggie bunch. I had a debate about this in a state forum - the governor wanted to legalize medical mj but he wanted to be sure plain old pot-heads weren’t being supplied. So he proposed setting up a system where the state would dispense it, based on a verified medical condition (obviously chemo would suffice, but not a hang-nail).

Anyway, that angered the pot-head bunch so much that NOTHING was passed. In one of the debates, I was told FLAT-OUT that the intent is to legalize the stuff, and the medical end was just to get their foot in the door.

So sorry, until you can get the pot-heads out of your movement, you get little sympathy from me.

What they want, and in some states got, is a pot store with a quack prescribing pot to anyone who walks in.

It is not my movement. I was just pointing out that there are legitimate medical uses for marijuana. But if your position is that because you hate potheads that cancer patients should suffer, I would have to disagree with that.

Sorry, but that’s life in politics. I have a female co-worker and gun-owner that still supports Democrats because she feels that Republicans want to “control her uterus”. I’m not suggesting that the Republicans should change on that issue, but I am pointing out how valid causes often lose out because of who they associate with.

Yes, we humans are messy. It's called collateral damage.

Look at you. You are so obsessed that someone—in fact a MAJORITY of voters in a whole STATE—

So you keep claiming while refusing to provide any evidence or even means of independent verification. Your baseless claims and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee.

doesn’t share your passion for ganja

My passion is for freedom. I haven't smoked in about 20 years; I guess your sleazy ad hominems and cowardly evasions go hand in hand.

Why would you give a rat’s ass about what I think or where I think it?

At this point I'm using you as an illustration to other readers of the logical, factual, and moral emptiness of the Drug Warrior position.

And that's OK even when that association is unchosen? I'd hate to have to stand before my Creator to be judged knowing that I had sided with the causing of suffering for sick people in order to stick it to pot-heads.

Call your man in the White House, Dopey.

He’ll tell you what state I’m talking about, as his people have been throwing the growers in my state into prison with a head-clearing zeal.

The alternative, as I’ve said, is to do a little work on your own.

I must say, you do seem confused by this simple little project...if you really did put down the pipe 20 years ago, you are a walking advertisement for avoiding the stuff.

Illinois...yes...I feel good about that somehow...

Done long ago - my finding was that no state has rescinded their medical marijuana law.

Quit twenty years ago, hey?

You might want to see if the neighbor slipped a little sumfin in your brownies, Crispy.

You’re beginning to double-post. Or would that be doobiel-post?

Haha get it? Doobiel...as in doobie? Did you catch that one? Snicker snigger koff-koff-koff??

Norml Nanny forgets he posted the same genius material 40 minutes earlier...quite the doobitorial there, Crispy!

Way to wage that battle for freedom! Way to get things rollin’ (get it, Crisp? rollin’? ha!) first thing in the a.m.!

No, you've geniusly misunderstood the use of typefaces. So sorry to see that blow up in your face.

The first step to knowledge is recognizing your ignorance. I like many other FReepers use nondefault typefaces for material quoted from previous posts in an exchange.

Mustered the guts to back your claims about your state's law yet?

You are actually too wasted to notice that you put up virtually the same post twice, aren’t you?

Put down your blunt for a minute and have a look at posts 52 & 55. Yes, I realize there was a little editing there, and reasonably decent editing for a man in your condition, but I also realize that you are entirely unaware of your slip.

Nanny. Focus for a minute. Hear me out. I started this discussion by suggesting that I am in favor of the availability of marijuana for medicinal purposes; but I also suggested that chronic potheads (many of whom have been my friends) and their all-or-nothing campaigns have resulted in much failure, at great expense to those who genuinely need and deserve access.

This is exactly what happened in my state. A liberal access law was passed, it was disastrous in terms of image AND eventual outcome.

I am, as I say, a guy who would support the availability of marijuana for genuine medical use. I would ask you: given your demanding tone, and your drama, and your obsessive henpeckery about the whole topic, do you really think you will ever make progress in bringing me, and others like me, around to your cause?

Good luck and high times, Nanny.
