Westchester County Republican Assemblyman Steve Katz was pulled over yesterday morning for speeding and hit with a possession charge when an officer recognized the distinct smell of marijuana. "He was alone and cooperative," said the police, who ticketed him for a small baggie and going 80 in a 65 mph zone. Katz was oddly arrested twice for allegedly mishandling dogs when he worked as a veterinarian, but both cases were dismissed. Last year, he voted against legalizing medical marijuana, although maybe this will be his Portman moment. The assemblyman sits on Assembly committees for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, as well as Higher Education.
What a moron
The lead story on every MSM station starting with the word “Republican” - this will go on for weeks.
What would this have to do with “medical” marijuana? Even the potheads I know laugh when they hear that ridiculous term.
Sounds like a setup. I’ll wait to hear his side.
“What would this have to do with medical marijuana? Even the potheads I know laugh when they hear that ridiculous term.”
The only thing that potheads laugh at are the IDIOTS that think there’s any difference between “medical marijuana” and street week. Just like seat belt (and cell phone) offenses used to be “secondary”, but now are “primary” - medical mj is simply a stepping stone to legalization.
Now we know why, he wanted all of the pot just for himself.
ROFL.
“It’s mine!! All mine!! It’s only legal for me!!”
Probably voted for the recent NY gun control act.
I would’ve thought it would’ve been possession and driving 8 miles an hour...
I remember the Gallagher routine on how people on pot are actually more careful drivers, they will roll down the window and yell out, “I’M CHANGING LANES!”
Succumbing to a vice or weakness and wanting to make it common is two different things.
For instance a homosexual can still see it as not something to be promoted and advanced in a society.
A guy who has a vice of gambling on Saturday night doesn’t have to be pro-gambling in legislation politics.
Someone who hates and fears guns doesn’t have to base his political position on that.
True, I suspect you don’t see heroin addicts going around telling people...”You gotta try this stuff, it’s great!”
Sorry, no setup. He's just another wannabe member of the power-elite. Laws are for the little people.
Drama Queens grow a pair! Ganja is less harmful than booze. The persecution must end.
Higher Ed, huh ?
Tony Weiner was on a House committee that focused on keeping young people safe from internet predators ~ like himself!
Nah, see ya’ll missed the point. He wasn’t opposed to weed. He was opposed to YOU having weed.
Reminds me of the Dennis Leary routine about Keith Richards, “Keith Richards says you shouldn’t do drugs....Keith, we can’t do any drugs, because you already did them all, there’s none left...we have to wait until you die, so we can smoke your ashes.”
exactly, it’s not medicinal, if so, how would you deny it to a child? Might have been their point.
Which would make the liberdopians happy I am sure.
He is a moron.
If the RINO republicans do not immediately call for his resignation they are bigger fools than I thought.
Not only is this scum a hypocrite but he openly admitted to being a religious bigot by only rooting for the only semi-pro football team in NYS (Buffalo Bills) when Marv Levi was coach because Marv was Jewish.
The GOP needs to put a few light years between this POS and themselves.
“Sounds like a setup. Ill wait to hear his side.”
Yeah, “they” must have setup his accelarator to go 80 in a 60.
I hate it when they set me up to drive 20 over the speed limit.
“Yeah, they must have setup his accelarator to go 80 in a 60.”
Tell me about it. I got a ticket recently in a small town in Texas. They gave it against the Advisory Speed (yellow sign), not the legal limit (black/white sign). Angered the hell out of me, but the lady working there was so nice, I calmed down. As it is, you can get one ticket a year here in Texas, pay about $140 and it never shows on your record. But if you fight that ticket, you better win, because it will otherwise show up.
Yea, so I suspect the same here - they had an ambiguous speed limit, or the cop just made it up - either way, those are the breaks in politics, people are out to get you.
dumbass...
...Katz was oddly arrested twice for allegedly mishandling dogs....
***
How is one oddly arrested?
And what was the writer of this wordslop smoking?
Higher education in the end days ...
Anyone who would deny marijuana to patients undergoing chemotherapy is beyond evil.
Or they're in denial about the medical uses of marijuana because they're so fervently committed to their anti-marijuana preconceptions.
Had a coughing fit and there were nachos stuck all over the inside of his windshield.
You know what we’re not in denial about?
It’s about the allies you have in this battle and the results they bring about, and the terrible image & political hardship they bring to you.
I live in a reasonably conservative state that passed a reasonably permissive pot law, after listening to protests and lamentations like yours.
Next thing you know their is a smoke joint on every corner and 40 losers hanging around the front door of every one.
People got pissed, pot law rescinded, now the whining and crying starts all over again.
Oh really?
Are you the official checker?
Then you better just keep checkin’ ‘round...’cause the state I live in doesn’t have the “I want smoke nowww” law that it did just a couple years ago....
how many have been cured by it? Give them cocaine or heroin while your at it
hey why not
its for thr chilrun
Oh really?
Are you the official checker?
Not at all - but you're acting like the official dodger. What state do you live in?
Then you better just keep checkin round...cause the state I live in doesnt have the I want smoke nowww law that it did just a couple years ago....
Even if true (which we can't know until we know what state you're talking about - which state is it?) that's consistent with revision as well as rescindment. Which did your state do?
And what state is that?
how many have been cured by it?
As many as the number of diabetics that have been cured by insulin. Marijuana has well established medical uses.
Give them cocaine or heroin while your at it
Cocaine and opiates are prescribable - would you like to end that as well?
hey why not
its for thr chilrun
Projection - that's how the War on Marijuana is rationalized.
it is for the children
that is the ultimate target of all the libertopian pervs
State of clarity, Smoke.
You?
Beyond that you can shove your questions about who I am or where I’m from.
There are only 50 states, Puffy. If you are that keen on sending your e-mails around, making phone calls, doing all the lobbying possible from your couch, then do your own research.
Do your own work, use your own brain, spend your own money on something besides the spleef. If you can still manage to function well enough, that is.
Oh really?

You're weaseling around, and you think you've smoked me? LOL!
You?
Illinois. I have nothing to hide.
Beyond that you can shove your questions about who I am or where Im from.
After you shove your unverifiable and almost certainly fabricated claims about your unnamed state.
Illinois?
Oh, that’s perfect, Choomer.
Listen—stay put, won’t you? Your brother-in-the-smoke has done quite enough damage for you all.
As I said, I have nothing to hide. I tell no lies about my state.
Excellent. I tell no losers about mine.
Maybe Fightin Whitey is from Delaware.
In Feb of 2012, Gov. Markell wrote,
“”I am very disappointed by the change in policy at the federal department of justice, as it requires us to stop implementation of the compassion centers. To do otherwise would put our state employees in legal jeopardy and I will not do that. Unfortunately, this shift in the federal position will stand in the way of people in pain receiving help. Our law sought to provide that in a manner that was both highly regulated and safe.”
Although the Governor suspended implementation of the compassion centers, Senate Bill 17 contains a provision that allows for an affirmative defense for individuals “in possession of no more than six ounces of usable marijuana.”]

Other than that, I haven’t been able to find anything from any state that would indicate their medical marijuana laws have been recinded or altered to any significant degree.
I too have never heard if any state changing their mind once they went down this road.
But again, maybe this change is what FW was referring to.
Look at you. You are so obsessed that someone—in fact a MAJORITY of voters in a whole STATE—doesn’t share your passion for ganja that you are willing to pick and poke and dwell and scratch...for WHAT?
Do you not have your weed today? I’m sure you do. Why would you give a rat’s ass about what I think or where I think it?
Who’s the frantic nanny here?
Good gosh, sit back, calm down and have another pipe, Buzzy.
By tomorrow you will have forgotten the whole thing.
“Apparently you have never had chemotherapy and unable to ingest anything without throwing it up.”
I’d have some sympathy for your movement if it hadn’t been hijacked by the druggie bunch. I had a debate about this in a state forum - the governor wanted to legalize medical mj but he wanted to be sure plain old pot-heads weren’t being supplied. So he proposed setting up a system where the state would dispense it, based on a verified medical condition (obviously chemo would suffice, but not a hang-nail).
Anyway, that angered the pot-head bunch so much that NOTHING was passed. In one of the debates, I was told FLAT-OUT that the intent is to legalize the stuff, and the medical end was just to get their foot in the door.
So sorry, until you can get the pot-heads out of your movement, you get little sympathy from me.
What they want, and in some states got, is a pot store with a quack prescribing pot to anyone who walks in.
“But if your position is that because you hate potheads that cancer patients should suffer, I would have to disagree with that.”
Sorry, but that’s life in politics. I have a female co-worker and gun-owner that still supports Democrats because she feels that Republicans want to “control her uterus”. I’m not suggesting that the Republicans should change on that issue, but I am pointing out how valid causes often lose out because of who they associate with.
