Marco Rubio takes second place -

Sen. Rand Paul won the 2013 Washington Times-CPAC presidential preference straw poll Saturday, and Sen. Marco Rubio was a close second, easily outdistancing the rest of the field and signaling the rise of a new generation of conservative leaders who will take the Republican Party into the 2016 election.

Mr. Paul won 25 percent of the vote, and Mr. Rubio collected 23 percent. Former Sen. Rick Santorum was third with just 8 percent, New JerseyGov. Chris Christie — who was not invited to speak at the three-day Conservative Political Action Conference — was next with 7 percent, and Rep. Paul D. Ryan, the GOP’s vice presidential nominee last year, was fifth with 6 percent.

The enthusiasm is good especially with 2014 on the horizon.

I'm all in favor of enthusiasm. I just don't want to see FReepers picking the candidate for '16 just yet. We're barely over last year's traumatic candidate-of-the-week free-for-all.

Wow. CPAC really screwed Dr. Carson over, not putting the correct name on the ballot. Still, I’m surprised that many people voted for a plastic doll. Then again, I guess it would be a dramatic improvement on Obama.

Jeb Bush flopped at last night’s CPAC Reagan Dinner.

Jeb Bush underwhelms CPAC 2013 attendees

Jeb needs to forget 2016. If he’s too scared to put his name on the ballot at CPAC (which if he did, it would probably have been rigged to give him a win with 90%), then he’s too wimpy to run for president. Besides, nobody wants him to run except Tokyo Rove.

Since Paulites were involved, I never trust those type of polls.

“Gee, do ya suppose that may because the voters know he is ineligible?”

Yeah, no kidding. Emerich de Vattel has become a household name, all across America. He’s one of our great founders.

Cruz y Paul para Presidente y Vice-Presidente!!!

Que hombres inteligentes y machismo. Mmm, mmm, mmm.

No mas Rubio o Christie (pro-amnesty). Adios, senores.

Besides, Senator Cruz is half-Irish.....and I'll have a mug of Irish beer in his honor this coming Sunday.

(Don't expect too much from high school Espanol classes....but I'm sure you get my drift).

Tokyo Rove and the GOP-e have already declared that their 2016 ticket will be Bush-Christie. The fix is in.

That’s why it’s critical to contact Tokyo Rove’s donors and tell them to stop their donations to his anti-conservative PAC.

It’s also critical that all primary candidates must go on record and refuse any support from Tokyo Rove’s anti-conservative PAC.

Bush-Christie 2016 CAN be stopped.

Ugh! Bush/Christie???

Yes. The RINO fix is already in for 2016. But it can be stopped by taking it to Tokyo Rove's donors.

Christie gets 7 percent and Sarah Palin gets 3 percent?

What kind of CPAC is this? Seems hardly Conservative.

Rand Paul and Sarah Palin appeal to similar types of voters. As long as the Senator comports himself as a mainstream candidate, I can't see the former governor throwing her hat into the ring.

They'd split the conservative vote and grease the skids for a RINO to again win the nomination.

And that RINO would be Jeb. He’d have a tough time choosing a running mate however. Greek column Christie, Bob “taxthesh&toutofyou” McDonnell, or maybe Rob Portmanonman?
