TAKE NOTE: The production of the electric car has already resulted in sizeable emissions—the equivalent of 80,000 miles of travel in the vehicle.

When you see someone with a hybrid or electric car you should say, “Nice ride! Does she run on coal or nuclear?”

Beyond the WSJ Mr. Lomborg’s views will never be published by the Obama media.

About Bjorn Lomborg

Dr. Bjorn Lomborg researches the smartest ways to improve the environment and the world. He is one of TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world, one of the 75 most influential people of the 21st century according to Esquire magazine, and one of the 50 people who could save the planet according to the UK Guardian. Lomborg has repeatedly been named one of Foreign Policy’s Top 100 Global Thinkers.

they have another filthy secret and that was told to me by my kid’s shop teacher o parent’s night:

the batteries are so powerful they can electrocute a mechanic, therefore the kids were not going to be working on them, but would work on the shop teacher’s Porsche.

A huge percentage (I think I've read 40% plus) of this nation's electricity is generated by coal fired plants.Osama Obama has openly promised to bankrupt the coal industry and his EPA is,I've read, well on its way to keeping that promise. So,we'll either be charging those cars with relative “dirty” power or we won't have enough power to charge them...thanks to all the power plants that will be shut down.

“... Ah, I see, you’ve got one of those new coal cars!”

I’ve tried saying it. It produces dumbfounded looks of confusion.

I went to a Telsa "dealer" (in a mall,no less) the other day and talked to the salesman.More than $80K for a car that,under *ideal* conditions,can go 300 miles between charges.Ideal meaning no traffic...55mph...no a/c...no heat...no hills.And a full charge using 110v takes 22 hours...using 220v it takes 9 hours.

My diesel has a range of 800 miles at a steady 70mph and takes about 5 minutes to fully "recharge" at any one of about 50,000 "charging stations" in the country. And it cost much,*much* less than $80K.

The greatest success of the AlGoreian global warming idiots is the successful re-definition of carbon dioxide (a gas essential to life on Earth) as a “pollutant.”

It was a “secret” only to those with liberal arts degrees.

For those of us who are engineers, it was apparent from the first doodle on a napkin.

Duh.

Life is a never-ending tragedy for those who refuse to use mathematics to evaluate choices in life.

The mining of lithium, for instance, is a less than green activity. By contrast, the manufacture of a gas-powered car accounts for 17% of its lifetime carbon-dioxide emissions. When an electric car rolls off the production line, it has already been responsible for 30,000 pounds of carbon-dioxide emission. The amount for making a conventional car: 14,000 pounds.

LOL Reality bites... How many years do those car batteries last? The energy going into building the car is wasted after a few years because 'green' batteries are too expensive to replace at a certain point.

Liberal elites have created the worst of the worst - a 'disposable car'...

These facts have always been known by those of us in the technical community. It is fascinating (and disheartening) to watch the technically illiterate (e.g., journalists, most politicians, and bottom-dwelling Hollywood types) pontificate on electric cars.

Oh well, guess folks will always listen to someone like Leonardo De-Dumbo vs someone who actually has demonstrated measurable IQ.

I got a GREAT deal on a 2 year Flease, er, I mean lease of a Nissan Leaf! Paying a few bucks more than I was in gas, and I’m out of it in 2 years. Plus I can charge it at work. If its a drive-around-town car you are looking for, its not bad. I really enjoy driving it....Has some great pep to it, but it has to be used right, ie not expecting to drive it 80+ miles round trip in a day, or going 60+ miles on the freeway....
.
I’m definitely not “green” and I agree that these cars are probably worse for the environment, but I do enjoy driving it!

Lomborg is an honest environmentalist, I give him huge credit for that.

As for electric cars, I would be interested in one, doesn't need to have great range, I have another car for that. It doesnt have to be the equivalent of a gasoline powered vehicle. The bottom line is, it just doesnt make any economic sense (too expensive), nor, as Lomborg points out, environmental sense.

My big question has always been about the batteries, nasty chemicals and metals in those. Manufacturing and disposing of them, in very large scales, will be a nightmare.

Thats the problem with most liberals, they dont think things very deeply, one, maybe two layers at most.

I never believed the crap about “zero emissions.”
They never had the decency to say that the total pollution caused by an electric car is unacceptable.

Is it just me, or do liberals solutions to problems seem to increase the problem tenfold in our lives?

If you look at life, from a spiritual point of view, it would be guarenteed that evil, or the hatred and distrespect for human life, will “cure” problems in the opposite.

Liberals embody the spirit of evil. What is right is wrong and what if evil if good. Every problem and solution identified by liberals is garenteed to feed liberalsism’s god of evil and deny the real God’s creation.
