The minister for France's overseas territories lamented the death of Hugo Chavez on Saturday, saying the world "needs more dictators" like him after attending the late Venezuelan leader's funeral a day earlier.
Victorin Lurel described Chavez as a cross between French General Charles de Gaulle and reforming left-winger Léon Blum, who served three times as French prime minister.
De Gaulle because he profoundly changed his countrys institutions, and Blum because he fought relentlessly against injustice, he told RTL radio.
Ill be criticised for saying this, but the world needs more dictators like Hugo Chavez, if its a dictator that he actually was. He showed a strong respect for human rights.
Lurel described Chavezs funeral service as moving, adding that while not everyone can agree with all his policies and actions, the people here are very proud of what he accomplished in 14 years.
Some 32 foreign leaders and a host of celebrities attended the funeral in Cararacas on Friday at the citys military academy.
Embalmed and on display like Lenin, Chavezs body will remain on public display for a week. Officials said his body would then be placed in a glass casket and housed at the military barracks where he plotted a failed coup in 1992.
The barracks are due to be transformed into a Museum of the Bolivarian revolution.
Lurel said that while the embalming seemed to be from another era, he was impressed by an operation that seemed to "genuinely sanctify Chavez.
Venezuela elected a socialist.
France elected a socialist.
We elected a socialist.
Sigh.
Someone please finally drop the Big One on Paris.
I’m sick and tired of these animals.
Yes. I agree. More deceased and decaying socialist dictators would be nice.
If anyone should appreciate the value of efficient dictators, it would be the “minister for France’s overseas territories”
Just voicing what every statist thinks.
I’m convinced that your everyday Democrat longs for a dictator that will care for them as a loving parent and punish those they hate.
Constitutionalists are willing to tolerate the personal actions of those they disagree with in exchange for their own personal freedom. Statists are willing to give up their own personal freedom in exchange for being able to repress everything they dislike in others.
Thanks DeaconBenjamin.
We have too many tyrants like Hugo. The world needs fewer of his elk. He was all PC Crapola—”for the poor” etc... all the while building a billion dollar nest egg for himself. I bet this Frenchman must have thought old Adolph as a good leader too... Hugo wrecked his nation. He will be remembered for his words and not his deeds—like most statue building tyrants throughout history.
Some idiots will say anything to get their name in the news. This is just another one of the same.
Yep. For these statists, democracy is good only if the people elect someone who pushes Socialist policies. As soon as the people rebel against them, its time for a "dictator" to keep the Socialist policies in place because the people don't know what's good for them.
Ten bucks says that Victorin Lurel is well on his way to equaling the Commandante’s status as a billionaire. And,if I’m not mistaken,Lurel’s never made more than 100,000 Euros a year.At least not according to his tax returns.
Leftists don't fight against injustice. Leftists CREATE injustice.
