The phrase "jumping the shark" describes that gimmicky moment when something once considered significant is exposed as ludicrous. This is the week the White House jumped the sequester.
The precise moment came Tuesday, when the administration announced that it was canceling public tours of the White House, blaming budget cuts. The Sequesterer in Chief has insisted that cutting even $44 billion from this fiscal year will cause agonizing painairport security snarls, uninspected meat, uneducated children. Since none of those things has come to pass, the White House decided it needed an immediate and high-profile way of making its point. Ergo, it would deny the nation's school kids a chance to view a symbol of America...
The government gave a $3,700 grant to build a miniature street in West Virginiaout of Legos. It shelled out $500,000 to support specialty shampoo products for cats and dogs. A San Diego outfit got $10,000 for trolley dancing. The feds last year held 894 conferences that each cost more than $100,000$340 million altogether. But Mr. Obama is too broke to let American kids look around the White House...
To top it off, a group of cherubic sixth-graders from St. Paul's Lutheran School in Waverly, Iowa, became a national sensation in a YouTube video pleading with the White House to reopen tours. "The White House is our house. Please let us visit," they beg in unison. The White House hasn't yet responded, no doubt being too busy overseeing its $27 million project that helped fund pottery classes in Morocco. (No joke.)

Stand up to this Clown, Republicans!
When contemplating budget cuts, the most juicy targets are of course the ones that affect the American people - how better to make the point that these ‘cuts’ are bad and thus we must raise taxes, than to cut off ‘benefits’ for the people.
There’s plenty of areas to make cuts; I’m sure every penny of the sequester cuts (and probably FAR more) could have come from the Obama liquor budget. BYOB state dinners, however, would have affected Obama’s lifestyle, and thus were not on the table.
And the democrat complicit media helps keeps Americans uninformed.
Odd looking storage facility. Are you sure?
It seems the demagogue in chief has finally overreached, and the press noticed.
Lets hope some of them have finally noticed their Obama love fest has gotten them nothing in return.
Trust me, the $27M ain’t going to pay for pottery classes. I wonder how many other grants have been mislabeled and sent to overseas bank accounts that end up in the pockets of politicians? Why is it that so many politicians are vastly wealthier than the rest of us and seem to have so much more wealth than what they report? I bet more government funds have ended up in overseas bank accounts that the politicians have access to than we will ever know.
The pic is just for reference.
Pottery classes. Is that what the CIA calls covert operations these days?
Obama stopped VA/Active duty payments on education? I am not going click the pic. Regardless, what you just stated, is contrary to my knowledge. Please, explain further.
All grants should end, period. It’s “free money” no one ever has to pay back and most always used for dubious purposes.
I think it behooves us FReepers not to underestimate the vital importance of Moroccan Pottery Classes....
okay, not possible
Pottery classes in Morocco? Poverty classes in America.
DEFUND socialist collectives, foreign and domestic.
You learn more about the government’s priorities by studying the things they continue to fund, rather than the things they cut.
The wolf-crying business in the sequester talk is just the federal government equivalent of “cuts to police and fire protection!!” that we always hear when budget tightening is suggested at the local level.
Once again, Chicago writ large.
This is all beyond belief.
The CIA must have run out of black funds...; )
I didn’t realize that suicide vests were even made out of pottery. Interesting.
Thanks SoFloFreeper.
They are all clowns, the government has been doing this for years, we all know this, what do the put in the water in Washington?
