South Africa is an angry nation on the brink, warns Nelson Mandela's wife

Graca Machel, the human rights activist and wife of Nelson Mandela, has warned that South Africa is an “angry nation” teetering on the brink of “something very dangerous” if extreme levels of violence in the country are not addressed.

...

Mrs Machel was speaking at the memorial service on Wednesday of Mido Macia, a 27-year-old taxi driver who died in custody after he was tied to the back of a police van and dragged for 500 metres by officers, apparently for arguing over a traffic infringement.

The death of Mr Macia came after other recent examples of police brutality, including the alleged operation by police in Durban of a death squad which executed criminals - and, often, innocent bystanders - with impunity, and the beating death by police of Andries Tatane, an unarmed man taking part in a protest about a lack of basic services in his Free State town.

Yet widespread fear of the police has prompted no let-up in the country’s rampant criminality.

Last month there was national outrage over the gang-rape, mutilation and murder of 17-year-old girl named Anene Booysen.

It was followed by the shock arrest of the nation’s former golden boy, Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, over the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He told police he believed she was an intruder;

...

William Gumede, author of a new history of the ANC movement entitled Restless Nation, said South Africa was in the midst of a “perfect storm” of economic factors, a historically wounded society and continuing social violence.

“There is a deep-rooted anger which is a legacy of apartheid but there’s also a new resentment towards former comrades who are doing so

Who GAF. That place was gone years ago. And the whites who remain there are either soon to be dead or crazy murderers themselves (Pistorius).

but Machel didn't talk about that I bet, she probably only speaks up when police or whites are involved somehow.

The ANC are veteran "community organizers." They have controlled S. Africa for 20 years, but, like our own Leftists, will never accept responsibility or ownership for any of the festering problems caused by their policies. They will easily blame Apartheid for another 50 years.

And just a side-note, in the video mentioned, not a white man or cop to be seen anywhere. I would wager that the Mozambiquan taxi-driver would have preferred a white police officer have been on the scene.

This is a blatant lie. SA is a dream of Eden realized. There is no unrest or anger since Mandela has led his nation to peace, plenty and freedom. We could all learn a lesson from him and the evolution of social order in South Africa.

Wouldn’t ‘angry nation’ be racist considering the population?

That’s odd, they have such strict gun control laws.

My South African friends, said that after apartheid ends poverty shot up, and crime became uncontrolled.
They all stayed about two years, had body guards for the kids, barbed wire around their homes with armed guards. South Africa is a hell hole.

I recently attended a training seminar and the presenter was ax ex-pat from South Africa. He said there is no worse place in the world, a hellish nightmare that is destined to blow up into unspeakable violence. He has no plans or desire to ever return.

Wasn’t mandala and tutu supposed to make this SA place a “heaven on earth” once they got rid of the “white” people? Can’t these losers (who just happened to be black, I guess) do anything right?

Political correctness aside, South African and Rhodesia were much better countries to live in than South Africa and Zimbabwe now. Both were first world countries that needed gradual political reform. Instead of gradual reform, both were changed overnight and the results of have been disastrous for everyone, including the people who thought they would benefit most from rapid change.

That's probably a very good observation. Much like Jesse Jackson isn't worried when he's being followed by a bunch of white boys.
