The Transportation Security Administration announced Tuesday that U.S. airline passengers will soon be allowed to carry small knives in their carry-on bags, a move that prompted swift condemnation from a flight attendants union.

The union for Southwest Airlines flight attendants called the decision "dangerous" and "designed to make the lives of TSA staff easier, but not make flights safer."

Good. Heck, I say give the knives out as complimentary gifts. Then everybody has one!

On a side note: Isn't it just great that the real reason the TSA wants to let these through is probably sheer laziness on their part? But that's OK. I'll take it.

And as a bonus we get - A union fight! TSA vs Flight Attendants! Huzaah!

Is anyone going to hijack a plane with a knife?

Not anymore. The passengers will beat them to death.

I simply don’t go anywhere, that I can’t at least carry my Gerber. I may not always have my gun, but I am never unarmed.

...blades no longer than 2.36 inches.

Where did they come up with a number like 2.36 inches? If they mean 6 cm, then say "6 cm." It's like the 1.6 gallon (6 liter) toilets. It's a weird number because they're really using the Metric system but they don't to say they're using the Metric system.

Now that the air marshalls can carry guns I don’t think knives will ever be able to take down a plane again.

That would forbid entrance into some VA hospitals.

When I read this article, the thought that came to my mind was that TSA is protecting the crew and the plane. Small pocket knives and golf clubs can do some serious damage to attendants and passengers, but the plane and crew aren’t likely to be forced to fly into strategic targets.

Does that mean that the Fresno Airport will give my husband’s favorite pocket knife (aka “the jaws of life”) confiscated last summer back to him?

There aren’t air marshals on every flight.

I didn't know that, but I don't think I've ever been to one.

They will license and do background checks and if you provide to TSA you can board plane then, they will say we regulate knives so we can regulate guns.

So silly ... I carry a 5 inch flashlight with laser pointer in my computer case on board any flight I am on ... and I fly a lot. Though the TSA sees it only as a flashlight ... it is in reality a deadly weapon when used as a Yawara stick (AKA Bone Breaker) AND it is completely legal to bring it on an airplane

First the laser is used to blind an opponent. Then the "stick" is held in the hand with the ends on top of the thumb and pinky fingers and the rest of the fingers on top of the stick. The stick is then forcefully shoved upwards under the nose of the unfortunate opponent. There are many simple techniques using the Yawara that a fairly unskilled person can use to disable an opponent. BTW a pen or like item can also be used in the same manner.
