February 2013 was the third highest month on record for background checks on Americans' purchasing firearms.
According to the FBI NICS database, there were 2,309,393 background checks completed in the month of February.
The only two months that saw a higher number of NICS checks were January 2013, with 2,495,440, and December of 2012, with 2,783,765.
The total number of background checks completed since November of 1998 (the month the FBI began tracking this information) is 165,279,535.
President Barack Obama, dubbed "The greatest gun salesman in history," has presided over 42 percent of these background checks, or a total of 68,898,629.

Pretty easy to see why it's so hard to buy guns and ammo these days.

Pretty easy to see why it's so hard to buy guns and ammo these days.Shelves are bare of most semi-auto anything where I am. Mostly bolt-guns, pump or break-open shotguns, and revolvers are all I see around here. The numbers are only down due to decreased availability, not for lack of desire to purchase.

Last Friday I spend 45 minutes standing in line at our local Gander Mountain to buy .22 lr ammo and it was sold out before I was able to buy any.

At 68,898,629 sold since his 2008 inauguration he’s run up quite a score. Assuming there are 360,000,000 US residents, that means he’s sold mostly new guns to a little more than 19% of the entire US population. Quite a score.

I’d suspect many Baraqqis made substantial investments in stock of firearms related companies and are enjoying the performance.

That’s all fine. However, what about the citizenry and their welfare. We KNOW the gun/ammo manufacturers and dealers are becoming wealthy, but what about the rest of us? Something is wrong with this entire picture. Bad wrong.

If this goes as I believe it will, people in red states will continue to be able to purchase guns and ammunition, and ones in blue states will be heavily restricted. When the “gun bubble” pops, you will have more supply feeding less demand and prices will be reasonable again.
This will likely take another 6-12 months to play out, and I’d recommend buying then in advance of future SHTF events farther down the line.

Wow, that is amazing. I bet the FBI gun owner database is bulging at the seams by now. What? Did you actually think the feds are NOT tracking and storing every single transaction involving a firearm? Pretty naive if you ask me. If the feds via the ATF can run guns into mexico, through straw buyers, and get away with it, then all bets are off. It's the stuff they CAN'T track that they need to worry about, and if they mess with our Constitutional rights, they have it coming, and they have no one to blame but themselves for the carnage that will ensue.

Question to any PA Freepers. Is there a background check requirement in PA for a 12 Ga pump action shotgun?
I live in Western NY and while I would have no issues passing a background check (other than posting on FR) I do not want NYS or any other government agency to have any paper trail other than what may be required to make the purchase (cash).

...I would have no issues passing a background check (other than posting on FR)...That could generate a 3:30 AM no-knock raid...as a danger to the regime.
