Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says that, although safety is her top priority, there is no way around cutting back on border patrol agents monitoring the country's borders because of the across-the-board spending cuts, known as "the sequester," that went into effect over the weekend.
"The number of border patrol hours that will need to be reduced equates to the equivalent of 5,000 border patrol agents, so we have fewer border patrol agents between the ports of entry," the secretary of homeland security told ABC's senior national correspondent Jim Avila in an exclusive interview. "We're going to do everything we can to minimize that impact on our nation's security, but that's just the plain fact of it."
When asked about the Department of Homeland Security's controversial decision to begin releasing illegal immigrants from jails across the country last week in preparation for sequestration, Napolitano said she was not involved in making the decision.

Maybe she could sell a few of those MRAPs and drones to some local hunting and fishing clubs to raise money. If you’re short of cash it would seem that the last thing you should be doing is buying thousands of MRAPs.
Why is everybody complaining about the Border?? We can NEVER seal the Border, and we never will. If we were to actually have REAL Border Protection and successfully Seal the Border and make it virtually impossible to cross without going through a checkpoint, This would End the War on Drugs overnight.
We know that over 90% of all “Controlled Substances” comes into the US from Mexico, in fact we have a Federally Protected Smuggling Zone going right through Arizona, with signs warning Us Citizens they should not be there.
Who is going to be the one to FIRE 3/4 of the Police,Judges,prosecutors,lawyers,DEA...., in the US, We would have Shutdown over Half the Courts across this country, What will these people do for Work?? The War on Drugs is all they know.
Asset Forfeiture Laws would be useless and literally Starve the Government of ill gotten funds. SWAT teams would no longer be able to Break into Innocent Citizens Homes at night and Shoot their Dogs. What about all those ancillary businesses? Rehab Centers?? What would Hollywood Do without the free flow of Drugs?? There is a rather large percentage of people that work in and around the War on Drugs. What will they do??
We CANNOT HAVE A WAR ON DRUGS WITHOUT DRUGS. Got it! We will NEVER have anything remotely close to effective Border Security, it just Cannot be done without Destroying the Very Livelyhood of Millions of PUBLIC EMPLOYEE UNION MEMBERS. Which means it CANNOT HAPPEN. EVER.

Seal the Border and End the War on Controlled Substances, at the same time Eliminate Welfare, and any and all aid to persons that came here illegally, except a bus ticket back home. Fire more than Half of All Law Enforcement and Related Agencies and force the rest to Actually Fight Crime, It’s not like there isn’t over a Million Known Gang Members living and applying their trade out in the open. I can hear the cry of racism now, 99% of All Gang Members are Non-White. But that would require massive change in the way people think, I don’t think we are there yet and may never be. There are way too many people sipping kool-aid andor on the Public Dole and dependent to the machine in this country to fix our problems that they created. The Media would never allow any such rational debate nor would they allow anyone to tie everything together in any competent way to explain the virtual circle jerk our government created to expand their power, or how futile the whole War on Controlled Substances is. My only answer to our problems Will Not Happen, that would be for a Border State to hold a Massive campaign instructing their Citizens on the History and Use of Jury Nullification, emphasizing on the ONLY 3 CRIMES listed in the US Constitution for Federal Cases and Bastiat’s “The Law” for everything else.

Technically you are correct, Maybe?? My President, Richard Nixon issued an Executive Order and Publicly Declared a War on Drugs, Congress went along with it and passed numerous pieces of legislation to support the Order. Every Government Agency in the US officially became part of this “War”. It is Just as much a “REAL WAR” as Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam,....... All of these were Police Actions with NO DECLARATION OF WAR from Congress, and for some reason people think they are and were WARS. So the War on Drugs, as I see it is just that, a “WAR”.

Since Nixon’s EO, drug use has escalated to a level of acceptability, as a given lifestyle choice- much the same, as homosexuality. The denizens of moral depravity, delared War, upon traditional society/culture, long before Nixon’s EO. The philosophy of hedonism, masquerading as liberty, is fatal to all who embrace it, and to those who are forced to bear the burdens, of such fools.
