Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says that, although safety is her top priority, there is no way around cutting back on border patrol agents monitoring the country's borders because of the across-the-board spending cuts, known as "the sequester," that went into effect over the weekend.
"The number of border patrol hours that will need to be reduced equates to the equivalent of 5,000 border patrol agents, so we have fewer border patrol agents between the ports of entry," the secretary of homeland security told ABC's senior national correspondent Jim Avila in an exclusive interview. "We're going to do everything we can to minimize that impact on our nation's security, but that's just the plain fact of it."
When asked about the Department of Homeland Security's controversial decision to begin releasing illegal immigrants from jails across the country last week in preparation for sequestration, Napolitano said she was not involved in making the decision.

The border was already a sieve! How could it get any worse? Bringing them over by busloads? This country has gone stark raving mad.
Auction off some of that rifle ammo you’re hoarding, Janet.
Right on cue - how predictable

Wasn’t it, though. These people make me sick.
“The border was already a sieve! How could it get any worse?”
Exactly, just throw the bloody doors open, they’re all flooding in anyways. I really don’t care what the cuts affect. Too damn bad we don’t have the money, deal with it.
Janet Napolitano is a very poor liar.No wonder she’s a politician. As wa previously posted the border was and is still a sieve.
If that dumb (other name for a female dog) wouldn’t release illegals and spend money buying anti-IED vehicles and actually use the drones ON the Fracking border maybe it wouldn’t......
I am pissed right now...
The border is not secure because Zero doesn’t want it secure.
Check your Janetalia and change the ROE to be effective.
The border is less secure because of Napolitano. She is clueless, incompetent, and a complete lapdancer for Obama.
In declaring that the administration is unable to fully protect our borders maybe its time to grab our guns and go defend the border ourselves.
Janet Napolitano is a terrorist within.
DHS had $8 bil in “unobligated” funds left over from FY2012 and expected to have an extra $9 bil this year, the whole “illegal release” is politically motivated BS.
“Napolitano: The border is less secure because of budget cuts”
OK, but our Country is less secure because of deficit spending.
The same number of Latinos will cross the border...the furlough will have zero effect. To say otherwise....it’s like saying that there will be less rain or less sunshine...because of the furlough. The reputation of these idiots is going down the drain. They should have all gone to the President and demanded that he work out a compromise and find a smarter way of performing the budget cuts.
the borders may be less secure...
but those govt pensions are fat and happy!
(*whew* i was worried /sarc)
There are NO SPENDING CUTS. The Federal gov’t will spend more dollars this fiscal year than previous fiscal year. That is not a cut.
It is like you expected a 7% raise and received only 5% raise. Is that a 5% raise or is it a 2% cut?
I can’t believe how stupid the public is now a days.
Janet is always looking for another excuse.
