This is just the latest revelation in the stealth inflation and food fraud theme I have written about frequently in recent months. The non-profit group Oceana took samples of 1,215 fish sold in the U.S. and genetic tests found that that 59% of those labeled tuna were mislabeled.

It seems that white tuna should be avoided in particular as 84% of fish samples labeled 'white tuna' were actually escolar, a fish that can cause prolonged, uncontrollable, oily anal leakage.

Oh and if you live in my hometown of New York City, you should pay particular attention:
Big Apple has big problem with seafood fraud: 94 percent of tuna and more than three quarters of sushi samples in New York City mislabeled.Of the 142 fish samples collected in New York, 39 percent were mislabeled. New York City led the nation with the highest occurrence of mislabeled salmon as well as the highest amount of fraud among salmon collected from grocery stores and restaurants.
The full report from Oceana can be found here.
Bon appétit!

If you Right Wing Nuts would only pay more taxes so we could hire more inspectors ... and drink less soda!
If nothing else, this thread has given me the name of a new punk rock band.
It also reminds me of a restaurant experience when I was a kid. I ordered red snapper, but got some random fish. When I complained that it wasn’t snapper, the waiter said, “It may seem different because most places serve it in the shell.” I may have been 9, but I knew it wasn’t red snapper and that fish of any sort was never served “in the shell.”
Tuna = horse meat
oily anal leakage ping.
that’s a first for both of us, yes?
‘The tuna just doesn’t taste as good.’
That’s probably because it’s dolphin-free tuna. :=)
Zer0's holding another press conference?
Starkist is now Pigeon of the Sea? Sorry Charlie
Well, I'm glad that mystery has been solved. Hello real tuna, goodbye skidmarks.
What next? Taco Hell is serving horse, and Chicken of the Sea ain’t tuna???
What is KFC serving?
Well, Mayor, we put the cat back into the catfish. Meow Mix!
How does a can get mislabeled in a store? I thought it was all labelled at the factory?
Do they mean that the factory is sending out cans of tuna that mainly contain other fish.
If that is the case, that is fraud, not mislabeling. They are misrepresenting their product, not mislabeling it.
Getting closer and closer to Soylent Green.
Actors Ted_Danson"Ted Danson and Sam Waterston are both on Oceanas board of directors, but a variety of notable celebrities are supporters of the organization. Mad Men actress January Jones is the face of Oceana's "Scared for Sharks" campaign, and Private Practice star Kate Walsh filmed a PSA about sea turtles for Oceana. In 2010, Entourage actor Adrian Grenier swam with Atlantic bluefin tuna and filmed a PSA about the endangered fish. 'Glee' actress Jenna Ushkowitz has also worked closely with Oceana. On her birthday in 2011, she asked for donations to be made towards the organization instead of birthday gifts. Most recently, she teamed up with Closets for Causes and donated several pieces from her personal closet to raise money for the organization
In addition, U.S. swimmer Aaron Peirsol has led an open-water swim event for Oceana since 2007 called The Race For the Oceans. Other Oceana supporters include Ben Harper, Morgan Freeman, and End of the Line author Charles Clover.
Ted Danson founded the American Oceans Campaign in 1987.
Wasn’t there a fatal accident of one of those Tuna factory workers who got caught in the mixer at the Tuna production plant ? just saying... it ain’t tuna...
Thank you FR, I have never laughed so hard in my life.
If you check the labels there are only two or three tunas without soy filler anyway. So your getting oily leakage plus man boobs.
I just picked up 100 cans of “solid white tuna”, labeled with a real brand name and at an excellent price. In case of an emergency, it’s nice to have plenty of protein with a long shelf life. Unfortunately, I’m not so sure about oily anal leakage as an emergency plan.

Here in the Philippines I buy Century brand tuna.
The ingredients are Tuna, water, and salt.
Having watched a TV special on tuna inspection here, I am
satisfied that I am getting the real thing.
Damn that tuna tasted funny the other day!!
I’ve had that before when I was still living stateside. You’re right.....it is the best tuna you can buy. Good stuff.
Here in the Czech Republic, well......it’s OK. There’s a store brand from Kaufland, one of the major retailers here, and it’s good. Not as good as Kirkland, but good. Better than Chicken of the Sea, actually.
There’s a store brand from Billa, another retailer here, that’s comparable to Kirkland, but the nearest Billa is all the way downtown, and I don’t always feel like going downtown. Unless I’m in the mood for Chinese; a couple of really good Chinese joints downtown.
Last time I saw the term “oily anal leakage” was on a bag of “WOW” potato chips. They’re no longer sold.
These days you have to use caution with any food you buy. For sure I’m not going to buy any canned meat product with the words “Product of North Korea” printed on the label.

I'd call B.S. on this story, but I'll bet it's not even the real thing. It's probably from a horse's @$$. . .
The authorities will be able to locate you by following the trail. :^)
What, did they only sample San Fransisco?
Dolphin free tuna? Subscribers can hear the “classic” ad
“The Tuna doesn’t taste as good as it used to. Weemsco Tuna is chock full of dolphins as all the other tuna companies have quit using them leaving more for us. Weemsco tuna has that delicious flavor you grew up with. Remember, Weemsco Tuna for the great dolphin flavor you are used to!”
you are correct and in a sane world (ie: a country of laws, not men)... there would be consequences / lawsuits / jail time
i expect payoffs to the dems and a giant shrug by the msm
Skim milk was once considered to be, "unfit for human consumption" and was fed to hogs.
It still is unfit for human consumption, as far as I'm concerned.
The dreaded oily anal leakage.
To be avoided at all costs.
Cherons in your britch’s is nothing to laugh about.
The excerpt refers to “samples of 1,215 fish”, which implies fresh or frozen fish, not canned.
Acapulco carp, sauteed in Ripple with a sprinkling of Brooklyn detritus.

“We are at war with Oceana.
We have always been at war with Oceana.”
You haven't heard of KFR?
What next? Taco Hell is serving horse, and Chicken of the Sea aint tuna???

This just follows the trend that, because of the Republican sequester that obama couldn’t stop, 125% of all horse meat is labeled incorrectly. Also, due to the sequester, there will not be enough janitors available to clean up the oily anal leakage in our schools.
Thank you. That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the name StarKist. If only she could be canned.
As an adult out to dinner with my brother-in-law I was treated to his most favorite seafood, scallops. At first sight i suspected and at first taste I knew that it was something like skate. Shark and its relatives are a bit bitter and I find that many who suppose themselves connoisseurs of scallops think that bitter is the proper taste and would reject the real thing.
Some of the names on that list certainly water down the credibility of the org...and the report.
Unfortunately this falls under the umbrella of “even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while”. Fraud in the seafood industry has been reported for years and from reliable sources. Did you know there’s no such fish as Chillean Seabass? Anyway when buying fish it’s definately buyer beware.
I was trying to think of the name of that stuff. I ate a big bag of fat free potato chips while traveling several years ago, and had the scours for 2 days, I think olestra in those chips is what did it.
I will say just this.
I searched the internet, and the only reference I could find to this is a paper done in 2009 that found that in NY City, a lot of sushi bars had this issue with tuna.
You’d think if millions of people were getting oily discharge from their butts, there would be at least one article about it in the news.
Oh, there were lots of web references to this story, but they were all on the PETA and vegetarian websites.
I’m see new labels....caught by trawling...southwest pacific....You tell me....
