Lamenting the idea that only a "Jedi mind meld" could prod the GOP into compromise, President Barack Obama said Friday that the "dumb" automatic across-the-board cuts going into effect today are the fault of Republican resistance to a reasonable deal to avert the sequestration's budget reductions.
"I know that this has been some of the conventional wisdom that's been floating around Washington," Obama told reporters after meeting with congressional leaders. "Even though most people agree that I'm being reasonable, that most people agree that I am presenting a fair deal -- the fact that [Republicans] don't take it means that I should somehow do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what's right," he said.
Asked why leaders did not negotiate more vigorously to get a deal before sequestration deadline day, Obama said that his ability to negotiate is limited by Congress's unwillingness.

Everything is somebody else' fault.
I’m sick of the lying liar in chief.
I’m sick of the lying liar in chief.
Cut, baby, cut! Don’t stop now!!
Obama isn’t willing to spell out where he’d cut spending and he demands Republicans agree to tax increases?
That’s not a negotiation. If he wants our side to give ground, he has to get serious. The President is full of hot air and demagoguery about the sequester because it serves his political interests.
Blaming the GOP for the situation is not going to lead an agreement. Whether or there is a “Jedi mind meld” involved.
Obama, just shut the hell up!
Sounds like a temper tantrum to me. Little man child Obama doesn’t get his way ...
This NBC “report” reads like a Semi-News/Semi-Satire piece.
Yup.
In negotiations you give and take.
Right now the Administration and the Democrats want to play political games with American families’ future.
I don’t want to see hard working public servants not having to pay their bills and feed their families.
But the President prefers to blame the GOP rather than agree to spending cuts that don’t inconvenience hard working Americans and undermine our national security.
That’s where matters stand this month.
That it does and I predict down the road if the cuts stand and the economy improves the headline will be “Obama’s Sequestration Saved the Country.”
he can’t even get a sci-fi metaphor correct.
or maybe he was cleverly referencing jj abrams doing star wars 7.
but i doubt it.
Even though most people agree that I’m being reasonable, that most people agree that I am presenting a fair deal —
Really? I think most people think you are an insufferable arrogant a$$!
“Obama isnt willing to spell out where hed cut spending and he demands Republicans agree to tax increases?”
He has no intention of cutting anything except the size of our nuclear arsenal.
All Republicans should join in the same answer to Obama:
“Your budget it a month late. Show some leadership. Send over a budget with your specific proposals - tax and spending. We’ll schedule a vote in the House, your friend Mr. Reid can schedule one in the Senate.”
Remember, sequestration was Obama’s idea. It originated in the White House. He signed it into law. This is ON HIM.
He is truly the paragon of the party that produced and nurtured him.
