A Long Island Republican says his vote in favor of New York’s new gun-control law was a “mistake” and is now co-sponsoring a bill to repeal it.

Freshman Sen. Phil Boyle, R-Suffolk County, issued a news release on Friday detailing his change of heart, criticizing the way the bill was rushed through the Legislature. The new law—known as the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, or SAFE Act—violates the Second Amendment, Boyle claims.

From Boyle’s statement:

“The so-called SAFE act was a mistake. Its passage lacked transparency and public input and its wording was ill-conceived and of questionable legality. Lawmakers ...

Um....ya know what? If some RINO needs to vote YEA for a piece of Communist crap legislation before he realizes it was a mistake needs to either learn to read or get a frakkin’ backbone. Either way, he is unfit to hold the office he was elected to.

A “mistake”? A mistake is dialing the wrong telephone number. You very purposely went along with this power grab.

Own it and burn, turd.

Anyone who votes for these treasonous (yes, treasonous) bills is not fit to hold office and should be run out of town on a rail. Vote yes to bills like this and you become the enemy forever.....no other way to say it.

It's from the RINO playbook. vote for it, then sponsor a bill that's against it which is DOOOOOOMED for fail and then only talk about the fact that he sponsored the bill.

” Either way, he is unfit to hold the office he was elected to.”

Agreed. If Boyle is trying to make amends for his useful idiot vote, he should be calling for the treason trial of the Nazi Cuomo.

People need to realize that sides are being chosen.

Either you got the kahones to confront the fat-ass, 80 IQ, 400-pound federal slugs or you don’t.

Yep. When he's at lib and RINO events he can tout his vote for SAFE. When he tried to woo the conservatives he can (try to) point to this bill. Pathetic.

Precisely. This country doesn't need craven weathervane politicians! Those are Karl Rove politicians. It needs politicians with character who can be counted on to do the right thing.

Yet, despite all that, he voted for it. You think this indicates anything remotely approaching sound judgement on his part?

Consider WHERE the embattled farmer stood. Today they would stand while their “assault rifles” were confiscated and they would be jailed by the powers-that-be in Concord and Lexington, while liberals made fervent anti-gun speeches.

Here’s his bio ( lawyer, Mc Lame supporter, member of the Sierra Club
Yea, he’s just the kind of “Republican” New Yorkers expect:

Boyle attended SUNY at Geneseo and then completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a Political Science degree in 1983. He received a Master of Public Administration degree from SUNY at Albany and a law degree from Albany Law School, both in 1987.[1][2]

After serving on the staff of former U.S. Representative Rick Lazio, Boyle was first elected to the state Assembly in 1994, and did not seek reelection in 2002, honoring a term-limits pledge. He returned to the state Assembly after winning a special election on February 28, 2006.[2]

Boyle was a delegate for John McCain being one of the few New York elected officials to endorse McCain before the primaries where most endorsed Rudy Giuliani. He served as a delegate for NY in 2012 and was among the first to endorse Mitt Romney.

Philip Boyle is a founding partner in a law firm Steinberg & Boyle LLP, located in East Islip, New York. He is an active volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the Great River Fire Department. Boyle is a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Sierra Club. He and his wife Victoria Ryan live in Bay Shore, New York.[2]
