School principal angry after rabbi give students free lunch and speech

Many high school students enjoyed free lunch given to them by a local rabbi and while they were eating they listened to a lecture from the rabbi.

Students at Great Neck North High School can hang out at fast food restaurants, go to the houses without supervision or do almost anything they want for lunch. But listening to a Torah lecture in an Orthodox Jewish synagogue should require parental consent, according to the school.

That’s between the parent and the student. The school should butt out. They have no right to even raise the issue. It’s none of their concern.

Another Reason to Homeschool.

( I do not use the acronym because there are government school defenders who manage to search out pornography in the most innocent posts.)

If they are off the campus, the principal should butt out

What silly state bureaucrats. Its called free speech and freedom of association. Bit different when the students are herded into auditoriums and forced to hear the rants of some guest liberal speaker the bureaucrats deemed appropriate.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

And we all know that if it were an imam and he was promoting islam, there'd have been no objection raised at all.

That's right. It wasn't on school property or on school time. It was their lunch period.

Now watch the school decide that students aren't allowed to go off campus any more, like many schools do.

Incarceration indeed.

Obama bribes people with free food- why shouldn’t anyone else. NONE of the principal’s business - he needs to STHU.

Civil servant - boy. SIT.

Rabbi Avraham Kohan, completely mainstream Orthodox. Not even particularly charismatic. Associated with some of the most famous Jewish religious scholars of this generation.

Can be heard (and seen) at:

Ah..but incarcerated prisoners have rights to prayer rugs in the facility-and GUARDS don`t forget guards. Which a school full of helpless children don`t deserve.

I have no problem with kids (mine or yours) being exposed to teachings from the Torah, the same lessons that were learned by Jesus in His youth. Scriptural interpretations by a liberal Rabbi would be another thing.

How DARE the rabbi do such a thing? Only the government can do that.
And muslims and atheists and LGBT ... but they are sanctioned by the gov't.

Great idea... I am Jewish so I like the good rabbi’s idea. Christan churches should do the same. Find a hall nearby the school or even a nearby park and give the kids a solid lunch and a religious talk too... some solid religious values

Principal here is laughable and so are the stupid Jewish orgs in town because schools are always trying to spirit their young charges away for some homo indoctrination

Wow! You have perfectly described our community's local kiddie prison ( Opps! “public school”)

Ah! The government anointed GODLESS secular humanist preachers.

No government school in this nation is religiously neutral because a religiously neutral education is IMPOSSIBLE! Freepers! Remember that when you fill out the check for your property taxes. Most of that money is going to PREACH GODLESS SECULAR HUMANISM to captive kids.

Hmm... Bernard Kaplan, the anti-Semite. Sounds unlikely, but is probably true. I suspect Bernie is a Reform Jew, which would explain his response to the Orthodox rabbi. If this had been some other synagogue more in line with his secular/leftist beliefs, he wouldn't have bothered to notify the parents.

BTW, it looks like Kaplan backed off, after the ADL's local attorneys spoke with him.

At least it wasn't this rabbi who gave the dvar Torah. Otherwise the principal probably would have lost it.

Will: What pray, sir, is a circumcision?
Rabbi: Oh, it's the latest rage. The ladies love it.
Will: Well, I want one.
Little John: Oh, I'll take two.
Ahchoo: Hey, put me down, too. I get one.
Robin Hood: I'm game. How's it done?
Rabbi: It's a snap.
[demonstrates with a carrot and a miniature guillotine]
I take my little machine, I take your little thing. See? I put it into this little hole here...
[releases the blade, cutting the end off the carrot]
and nip the tip.
Merry Men: [Collective groan]
Rabbi: Who's first?
Little John: I changed me mind.
Ahchoo: I forgot, man, I already got one.
Blinkin: Question.

I have heard of a Leftist, Jewish organization in Israel that tries to prevent secular, Jewish children from becoming Orthodox. Maybe this principal is a member!

It’s nice to see the ADL gave Bernie the principal a good smackdown. Now if we could get Bernie Goetz down there to teach a one hour firearms safety course during lunch! LOL!

The principal would probably have a conniption!
