Feds: Jackson Jr. Stole $750K in Campaign Funds

(Newser) – Looks like Jesse Jackson Jr. didn't exactly work out a sweetheart plea deal for himself. Prosecutors intend to recommend 46 to 57 months of prison time for the former congressman, along with a fine of between $10,000 and $100,000, Politico reports. As part of the deal, Jackson admits to having conspired with his wife to illegally spend $750,000 in campaign money on such vagaries as fur coats, airplane tickets, a $43,000 Rolex watch, celebrity memorabilia, booze, cigars, and even groceries.

Jackson was formally charged today with felonies including conspiracy, reports the Chicago Tribune. His wife, former Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson, was charged with filing false tax returns. No public money is believed to have been included in the $750,000 of misused funds, at least some of which will be forfeited as part of the sentence. "I offer no excuses for my conduct and I fully accept my responsibility for the improper decisions and mistakes I have made," Jackson said in a statement.

Once credit cards became the norm in the 1990s....it’s hard for any political figure to hide his illicit spending. You need to do this corrupt stuff strictly in cash, and avoid every showing a trail. As for his prison sentence? He’ll spend eighteen months at best in some fed prison, and get out to enjoy his pension deal with the government eventually.

The very fact that he got caught means he stepped on someone’s toes that didn’t take kindly to it. He’s lucky he didn’t end up in the horse processing plant...

Jesse Jackson Jr. to plead guilty to federal charges

Former Rep. Jesse L. Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) will plead guilty to conspiring with his wife to illegally spend $750,000 in campaign funds on personal expenses, including a $43,000 Rolex watch, fur coats and memorabilia associated with Michael Jackson, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and Bruce Lee, according to information obtained by POLITICO. The charges against him include conspiracy, making false statements, and mail and wire fraud.

Did JJJr learn that at his Daddy's knee or did he go to school with Kwamne Kilpatrick?

This seems like the perfect House seat for Chelsea Clinton-Mezvinsky to begin her trip to the top. Followed by Malia Obama-Shabazz in 12 yrs or so.

With this admittance of his, sounds like he is vying for some toplevel position within the Regime. Anybody have any idea what it might be? Secretary of Treasury? Commerce? What?

I actually feel sorry for the kid now. His life is in ruins and you have got to believe that Sandy is beating him over the head every time the story about that $43,000 watch comes up.

Maybe JJjr would like a year in the can til the heat dies down with the bride.

Yep, though JJ Sr extorts it where Jr plain old steals it. Daddy must be a little smarter, he hasn't been nailed and sent to prison...yet.

Well for crying out loud, if you can’t get rich, what’s the point of going to Congress?
