This means they want Hagel nominated but that they will register a meaningless “no” vote. They just want to string it out a bit.
Could be, but it also gives them 10 days to dig up more dirt on Hagel. Who’s to say they’ll still want to end debate when they get back. Could be a whole different ball game by then.
I really don’t understand the point in doing this. If we know he is going to be confirmed why wait a week? What do they hope to gain? Especially if they are announcing the fact before hand.
It would be great if they had some damaging info that they knew was going to be dropped between now and then that would change the outcome, but that is only the stuff dreams are made of.
I think the intent is to force each Democratic Jewish Senator to stand up and be counted as a friend of Israel, or an adversary.
