Police in Christopher Dorner standoff launched incendiary tear gas into cabin

By CHUCK BENNETT and DAVID K. LI From Post Wires Last Updated: 6:14 AM, February 14, 2013

Murderous ex-cop Christopher Jordan Dorner wanted to go out in a blaze of glory — and the sheriff’s deputies who surrounded his California mountain hideout provided the flames.

The San Bernardino County cops torched the wooden cabin with highly flammable “incendiary tear gas” as Dorner took refuge Tuesday, apparently burning him to a crisp.

“Burn this mf--er!” one officer shouted as they had Dorner — who had earlier killed a deputy and seriously wounded another — pinned down in the cabin, according to police radio transmissions.

Amid sounds of gunfire, voices can be head shouting, “Burn it down!” and “Shoot the gas!”

What is astounding is posters comparing a hot shootout with a perp who had killed a deputy trying to escape from the location in question to creeping fascism.

Hear, Hear!

Slippery slope.

Failure to adhere to Due Process here begets worse abuses later. See every dictatorship in history.

We either recognize this police behavior as abnormal and worthy of invedtigation, or we’ll get more and worse until my example is on your doorstep.

Remember, Obama WANTS to do that. You know it.

They did confirm nobody else was in there.
Took them awhile.
They had to track people down.
That was scattered in the bits and pieces of confused communication on Tuesday.
Now, if there were/are more than one body in there obviously there some ‘splaining to do.
Especially on the part of the owner who said, “Yeah, nobody in there.”
But part of the communication bits was that nobody was in there but him.

Slippery slope. Failure to adhere to Due Process here begets worse abuses later.

So in other words, to you, the cops don't have the right to counter lethal force in kind. They should have just waited for Dorner to kill a few more of them, I guess.

Do you understand just how absurd your argument is in the face of the facts as we understand them today? That Dorner had killed a deputy and wounded another while trying to shoot his way out of the very structure in question? He was not passively holed up in that cabin. He had actively killed from it.

Your arguments fly in the face of basic concepts of self-defense, whether it be civilians or LEOs.

Now they can burn out gun owners soon without knocking.

Dorner lit the fuse. The LAPD is a legal street gang but that doesn’t mean that Dorner didn’t deserve to die. He did deserve to die. And he died.
Your targeting of the LAPD in a town run by Democrats is going prove worthless. There are no Republicans to blame. But push on, Sisyphus, push on. Maybe the Republicans can exploit it.

So you are taken to insults instead of actually discussing the issue, sir? If you have nothing to contribute to this discussion, then why even bother posting to this forum? You have little constructive commentary to make. You only see fit to denigrate those of us who wish to stand up for our freedom while seemingly loathe to contribute anything, pro or con, to the discussion.

I would go so far as to say that you are simply projecting your own personal view of yourself on this poor young man who seems to have quite the active imagination, but I believe you are doing the job for me.

Sit in your basement and enjoy the rest of your foul life, sir. You seem to have nothing to give to those of us who wish to fight for our freedoms.

Cripes, a running gun battle between LEOs and a killer - a perp who had killed one of their deputies at that very location - becomes the latest Waco. Would he be any less dead if he had bolted from the cabin firing at LEOs and been shot dead while killing a couple more of them?

Quit trying to shoehorn every current event into past history. This has NO bearing on creeping fascism. It was self defense against lethal force by a perp.

Interesting thread just to read the comments from the “burn him alive” crowd. The “usual nuke mecca” types. I don’t have much sympathy for this cop killer but disdain how he was executed. There are more human ways to kill someone than burning them alive FCOL.

And 2000 LEO’s plus support can’t stop a fire? The weather reports had trivial winds from the 11th through today. Don’t bring up fire when it is nothing but a red herring in this particular case.

Forget Dorner and the LAPD shooting up people, Rubio spilled water on himself. #democrat

I can see both sides of this issue and see valid points in each, apparently you cannot. It is a worthy discussion, but name calling fellow FReepers to shut down debate is a liberal tactic worthy of ridicule. We just disagree. I don’t question your motives, so don’t question mine or try to say that I somehow ‘support Dorner’ because I want answers to whether or not the cops intentionally torched private property.

Charlie Foxtrot 101 is about right. Which is why there should be serious questions asked pertaining to use of force.

50 rounds shot at two 'mezcin woman, in a pick-up truck the wrong make & color. When they were looking for a 300lb black man with a bald head.

Woops. Sorry 2 out of fifty ended up in your back, lady. We apologize. At least one of them was meant for Dorner's bald head.

We have to defend ourselves, you know.

But, I remind those gun owners that ‘bravely’ say on this and other blogs that they will just shoot anyone from the government coming to seize their weapons.

I worry more about the cowardly lickspittles that will rat out whom amongst their neighbors have guns to the jackboots. But I'm sure YOU'RE not one of those.

I understand creeping fascim just fine and will stand up to it when it happens. But this is NOTHING of the sort. This was a hot shootout with one deputy killed and one wounded by the perp trying to bolt from the structure in question. What if Dorner had been shot and killed at that point? Would that have been OK?

What if he had been shot by a sniper while peering out a window for his next barrage?

How is firing CS gas at the structure any less lethal than those two steps? Dorner could have ended it by surrendering. He chose not to.

I think the real problem is that people see CS gas and fire and it makes them think of Waco. But this is nothing like Waco, it was a hot (and lethal) firefight started by Dorner. Last I checked, cops, like anyone else, have the right to counter lethal force in kind.

Anyone read anything about the people who owned the house? Wonder if insurance covers the loss or are they just screwed?
