This excerpt from the Clemente Report is very disturbing. For anyone who refuses to believe that Joe didn't know - I think this story will change their minds. Would anyone blame this Mom, like they blame Joe? Would she be fired? Would she be cast as a horrible, evil person? Should all of her life's good work be erased because of this episode? Was she demonized like Joe has been? And this molestation happened literally right in front of her eyes.
Please watch the video, read the Clemente report, THEN please post your comments and let us know what you think.
Excerpt from Clemente Report:
"One of the many potential victims whom I interviewed during the investigation had a very interesting story to tell. First, I spoke with the boys mother. She assured me that she had already asked her approximately 6-year-old son whether Taus had molested him. He said no, so she believed there was no reason for me to talk to her son. I told her I would just like to ask a few questions and it would not take long. She reluctantly agreed. I interviewed the boy while he sat beside his mother and asked the boy a number of questions before I inquired whether Taus played any games with him. He answered that yes, they played the tickle game. I asked how the game was played. At that point, I recall the boy turning to his mother and saying, You remember Mom, when I was sitting on his lap last time he was here talking to you. He had his hand up my shorts tickling my privates. He tickles me and I have to try not to laugh. I looked at the mother and all the color had drained from her face. She could not believe that Taus had molested her son right in front of her very eyes and she had no idea that it had happened. She trusted Taus so much based on his profession, his reputation, and her repeated positive interactions with him that she never even questioned the fact that he liked to have her son sit on his lap."
ALL OF YOU PEOPLE, PARTICULARLY ESPN TALKING HEADS, NEED TO SHOW SOME REAL COURAGE AND ADMIT THAT YOU WERE WRONG. IT COULD HAVE JUST AS EASILY BEEN YOU INSTEAD OF JOE. OR THAT POOR MOM. CMON PEOPLE - HAVE SOME MORAL COURAGE AND ADMIT YOUR MISTAKE, AND HELP THESE GOOD PEOPLE RESTORE THE LEGACY OF ONE OF THE TRULY GREAT MEN IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL.
Ok if is was not a “Sin of Commision” it was a “Sin of Ommission! Joe was JUST a guilty by not knowing WHAT his TOADIES were doing!
So therefore you believe that the MOM in the story is Guilty too.
You remember Mom, when I was sitting on his lap last time he was here talking to you. He had his hand up my shorts tickling my privates. He tickles me and I have to try not to laugh.
So the mother was there and didn’t notice some pervs hands her privates? We are expected to believe that. Please. Yes, she should be fird.
Had Paterno reported what had been related to him to the police, his complicity never would have been an issue.
But he didn’t. It is. And it always will be.
God Bless Joe Paterno and Penn State! Glory be that the truth is coming out. Hopefully Penn State will return the statue of Joe soon. Glad they only put it in storage. The Penn State tragedy is on the football team and the Paterno’s. Sad for all of them.
And frogs will fly our of our a$$es.
I did so wish to see JoPa in orange prison jammies along with his pillow-biting buddy. There’s no way in hell that JoPa did NOT know what this fudge pusher was doing in his locker rooms.
No.
What kind of monster would do that? Paterno.
He did. Read the reports, rather than rely on what you hear on TV and radio.
What did MOM know and When did SHE know it?!
I know, my FRiend, that it is very difficult to comprehend. But I promise you, if you actually read the report and watch the video, and understand ‘nice guy offenders” and the concept of “grooming”, that you will feel differently. Understanding these concepts, rather that blaming the victims (including Paterno and the Mom in the story), is the best way to prevent these types of crimes. And isn;t that what we all really want?
PLEASE read the report and watch the video.
ANY parent/grand parent should watch this video regardless of what they think of Joe or Penn State. You will be shocked and informed. You owe it to your kids to watch it.
They should also read his section of the King & Spalding Report.
Clemente is a very sharp guy.
Oh my goodness. I feel sorry for you. You have no concept of good versus evil, and no regard for truth. May God have mercy on your soul.
There is a difference between a mother and the head coach of a football program and what the consequences of being “guilty” are. Paterno was fired for not adequately supervising what was going on in his program. He was not executed or put in jail. Firing is appropriate in a situation like this. A mother may be guilty of not picking up on signs that her child is being molested but unless that rises to the level of criminal neglect, no one is going to take away the child.
If he didn’t know, what was it he supposedly reported to the campus cops and why was Sandusky barred from the locker room?
“You owe it to your kids to watch it.”
Indeed. For the good of the Children - please read the reports, watch the videos, and learn.
How can you say that? Were you there? The problem is NO one knows the whole story.
Did you watch the Clemente video? I trust him over the grandstanding Louis Freeh ANY day.
It was evil to hear that a longtime coworker molested a boy in the showers and do the bare minimum of reporting it up the chain, and reportedly discouraging persuit of the matter; it was even more evil to watch for over a decade as that same coworker paraded boy after boy through the facilities, into the showers, to away games, to banquets, etc..
May God have mercy upon you. I will pray for you.
Seriously just get lost. Don’t let the door hit you in the butt on the way out.
First off the mom in the story didn’t have someone tell her the abuse was occurring.
Second the story is probably just that. A story. Fiction. Was the mother being led around by a seeing eye dog? did you leave that part out?
Vet - So let me get this straight. No one spotted this “friendly pedophile”, including ALL the experts. Children’s Youth Services, The Chairman of The Second mile (a Psychologist), Police, AG’s office; case workers. Sandusky was vetted by the EXPERTS every time he brought in another of his SIX adopted kids. and multiple foster kids. He was scutinized every time, and NOBODY KNEW. You you are convinced that Joe, presumably because he is omnitpotent, did in fact know, and the blame should be placed on him. Got it.
The pedo-enablers will turn up from time to time. Nothing new.
Based on what? You’re as bad as Freeh. Looks like you listened to the ESPN spin last summer and made up your mind. Nice critical analysis though. Bravo!
So Jim Clemente is a liar? Do you know anything about him? His credentials and reputation are both above reproach. There is no disputing that. He was also the victim of abuse.
“Really? You apparently think winning footbal games is good that offsets a lot of evil.”
On what basis do you say that? Your comment is amazingly similar to the Freeh report. Conclusions made without regard to facts.
I will pray for your children. May they grow to be more educated that you.
Forget about the mother. No ONE picked up on this, not even the experts. Over and over again he fooled them. Got away with adopting and fostering many, many kids, and passed with flying colors EVERY TIME. Yet you repeat the mantra - Joe should have known. Think man.
Desperate times for the Fan Club.
What a rude remark. You owe that poster an apology.
I wonder if anyone on this forum is aware that louis freeh was a co-chair and also general counsel of MBNA, who happened to be the second mile’s largest corporate sponsor. Things that make you go hmmmm...
Kinda' like criticizing the idiot we have in our White House. Kinda' gets people all stirred up.
I don’t repeat the mantra that Joe should have known. He was in charge of an organization where this happened consistently over time. That should be enough to get you fired, whether or not he knew about it.
You are so right. Those who bury their heads in the sand, who refuse to try to understand the concepts of ‘nice-guy-offnders’ and ‘grooming’, who carelessly place blame where is doesn’t belong - those are surely the pedo-enablers. And it appears you are glad to be on their team. Clearly you have not read the reports. I suggest you do so to avoid future embarrassment.
Just looking at the FR names of some of the most prominent defenders shows what they think is important - JoePa - Nittany Lions, etc.
I hope your children are protected from men like Paterno who think his reputation is more valuable than due diligence in protecting them from a known pedophile.
I will pray for you. You really really need it.
Dreamer - you seem like a good guy who’s heart is in the right place. Would you please take the time to take a look and listen to what Thornburgh and Clement have come up with?
It’s a bit of an investment in your time, but worth it. Try to understand the reality of a “friendly predator” whose grooming skills were in the top 1% of all friendly predators. And please don’t throw around statements like “discouraging pursuit of the matter” - it’s patently false. Louis Freeh has a history of unsubstantiated conclusions and unsupported exaggerations, and has been reprimanded for it. Take a steo back and reconsider your opinion, based on facts, not media-driven drivel.
RESTORE THE LEGACY OF ONE OF THE TRULY GREAT MEN IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL.
Oh please! “History of Football?” In the scheme of things, to suggest that anything “great” about football would trump what Paterno did to “preserve his legacy,” is a disgrace! The idea that we should expunge Paterno’s “record of deception” where Sandusky was concerned makes me want to puke! From my perspective there are no “great men” in sports. But I understand where you are coming from. I had a business associate who told me back when OJ Simpson was on trial for killing his wife that “he could not have done it because he was a sports figure.” That is your mentality too and it doesn’t show much intellect!
OK I get it. Someone’s head had to roll. OK then.
That is the reality.
All the hand waving, extenuating circumstances, anecdotes and personal attacks do not detract from that reality.
Let’s see...Paterno was aware that Sandusky had been investigated by the authorities (on child molestation allegations) in 1997. Four years later, a graduate assistant on his staff (later promoted to assistant coach—and still on the staff when the scandal finally broke) tells Paterno what he witnessed Sandusky doing with that little boy in the shower of the Penn State doorbell complex. JoePa’s reaction? Call the AD—the guy he put into that post—and let the cover-up continue. In the interim, more kids were victimized by Sandusky.
Paterno could have stopped the whole thing in 2001 by simply having the courage to call the local prosecutor or the state police. Instead, he was more concerned about protecting the PSU football brand and his own reputation. The “report” commissioned by his family is little more than an exercise in denial.
Amen...
What I heard from my cousin (who is a PSU student) is that Joe went to the president of PSU. Now, what Joe is guilty of is trusting the PSU administration!
Thank you pghoil. It seems there are many who have made up their minds, and will believe JoePA is evil. No facts or rational thinking will change way they believe. And they will not read the reports, because they do not want their minds changed. Perhaps they are concerned about being seen as pedo-sympathizers, or will feel their masculinity challenged. The sad irony is that this is just what the pedo’s want - in fact, it’s what they are counting on.
I’d love to continue the chat - but for now - I’m out.
SEVEN people testified under oath that Joe Paterno was NOT made aware of 1998. NO ONE testified that he was made aware of 1998.
Why do people (the media) just make stuff up? Why do otherwise smart people buy into everything and anything that some sports hack writes from his basement?
Which police agency did Paterno report this to?
None. Thus his legacy.
It is painfully obvious that you have not reviewed the facts in this case. So many inaccuracies in your post.
It’s OK though - this is how most people (especially anonymous internet posters!) feel, and probably will feel forever. Those of us who have read the Freeh report, and the Paterno report, page-by-page, (not easy - it’s 400 pages in all) have learned what very likely happened here and, my FRiend, it just not as you think and describe.
It’s OK though. If I were you, I wouldn’t waste my time reading through such an exhaustive compilation. Just realize that you MIGHT have rushed to judgement a bit.
Right, they just worked backwards from their desired result! Like his butt buddy Sandusky, Paterno, at the end of the day was just another ‘self aggrandizing sports figure” who saw himself as more important than truth and justice. If the people of Pennsylvania had any decency, they'd go burn down the stadium at Penn State, but instead enough of them are so full of crap, they continue to defend the indefensible.
Right!
Totally pass the smell test, totally.
Every deviant has an apologist somewhere.
Please go away already.
You don’t get it. This is how these friendly-pedophiles operate. Sandusky was always around children, He was smooth enough to get six adopted kids and four foster kids by all the experts. He was a tee-totaler - a fact he used to stay away from adult socializing and go hang out with the kids. Joe and the rest of the coaches were on one side of the pool, drinking bourbon, and Sandusky was playing Marco Polo and fondling these boys right under their mothers’ watchful eyes. Kids were his life - a very carefully crafted cover.
As for your insinuation that Sandusky booked a room with an 8 year old boyand Joe knew about it - I don’t know how to respond to that. Sandusky was a phenom groomer who fooled everybody - every those TRAINED to spot such monsters. Go ahead and claim Joe shoulda known though.
Oh, the Joe Paterno cultists are back at it today. Seems the few that they are will go to any length to rehabilitate the (deservedly) tarnished reputation of their hero. What a pathetic group. Imagine trying to rehabilitate the reputation of a pedophile enabler (Paterno) of the pedophile Sandusky? That's a tall order.
Fact of the matter: the Thornburgh report is flawed just like these cultists claim the Freeh report to be.
For a detailed analysis of the Thornburgh report I direct you to the Yahoo Sports reporter Dan Wetzel's column written after the report's release. Or better yet, go to the ESPN.com's website and read Gene Wojciechowski's column also written after the release of the Thornburgh report. Both of these reporters are print journalists and not the ESPN "talking heads" that one of the cultist criticized earlier. And before you leave either of those websites, take the time to read the comments posted by college football fans after each article. Thankfully, the reporters, as well as the average fan can see right through Thornburgh's phony report.
And then yesterday, Mike Francesa, a sports talk show host here in New York, had Dick Thornburgh on as a guest. To say the least the interview did not go well for Mr. Thornburgh and he all but excused himself from the truncated interview. Seems he couldn't or didn't want to answer some pointed questions from Mike. Thornburgh, a paid mouthpiece for the Paterno family cut and ran.
Thankfully, this bought and paid for Thornburgh report is not changing anyone's mind with respect to the enabler Paterno.
Post 2001 - js was never seen on campus with second mile kids again. Ever - as per MM’s testimony.
I wish people would pay attention to the facts of this case. It’s an indictment on their attention spans and prior biases.
Dude. I think all you Paterno freak are victims of abuse.
Furthermore by coming around with these incredibly stupid articles you’re abusing the rest of us as well.
Finally i think the hand full of Joe Pa apologists may all be one person or you contact one another so you can come here and look silly together.
Shame on you for asking inconvenient questions on a pedophilia celebration thread!
