Ben Carson for President
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 02/08/2013 | Review and Outlook

"Whether this weekend finds you blowing two feet of snow off the driveway or counting the hours until "Downton Abbey," make time to watch the video of Dr. Ben Carson speaking to the White House prayer breakfast this week.

Seated in view to his right are Senator Jeff Sessions and President Obama. One doesn't look happy. You know something's coming when Dr. Carson says, "It's not my intention to offend anyone. But it's hard not to. The PC police are out in force everywhere."

Also said it (his running for prez) would happen only if the good Lord took him by the scruff of the neck and made him do it......

Dr Ben Carson used the word “we” 100 times in his speech, in complete contrast with the anointed one who uses the word “I” 100 times in his speeches.

Actually my comment was directed at people like you who find a new superstar every couple of weeks and suggest that they be president based on one speech.

The talent pool of effective and credible advocates of conservatism is distressingly thin at the moment.

Next week he might turn around and suggest that we ban guns.

Or maybe he has a bimbo problem? Or maybe he just doesn't want to get too close to the hot kitchen (not that operating rooms are hot or anything)? Who knows?

His speech should be taken for what it is. If the speech maker should volunteer for further service, then we should seriously consider!

Freepers are either so daft or racially isolated that they always think if they can find the perfect minority whether black or hispanic primarily who is maybe or sorta or even ironclad conservative that minority voters will fall in line...especially in nationwide elections.

when there is no evidence of that at all ever and reams to the contrary

so do freepers clamour over the years for Colin Powell, Condi Rice..neither terribly right wing or JC Watts or Cain or West or now Carson because they are daft, naive or suffer from stupid white guilt which in my view as righties they shoulda ditched in the 90s at the latest?

anyhow it never fails

now the dimwits think Mr path to citizenship Rubio is the answer to it all and the whole GOPE is behind it as well...FOX, Ailes and company

Rubio has talent and outside of amnesty is actually conservative but amnesty is a big IF which will kill this nation as we know it...just look at California

and so many here think latinos ..Mexicans when it gets down to it...will view pasty white Cuban Rubio and blondie Colombian wife as fellow bloods ala raza are sadly mistaken

Amerindian Mexicans will view Rubio as part of the same light skinned oligarchy they left to get away from

people here don't get out much

btw...race may mean nothing to you stormhill but it means eveything to those trying to kill America and is the primary reason they view our nation as one long crime against humanity and that the Constitution of slavers is outdated...the irony being they wish to replace with one fostering a new more insidious slavery to govt

we cannot ignore how our enemy thinks...did Sun Tzu ever say that?...he shoulda

Brilliant speech.

This theme is how Romney could have beat the creep.

“now the dimwits think Mr path to citizenship Rubio is the answer to it all and the whole GOPE is behind it as well...FOX, Ailes and company”

It gets even better than that.

Geraldo Rivera apparently is planning a run for the US Senate from New Jersey as a Republican.

Geraldo has had Rubio on his program and it was a real mutual admiration society. The La Raza/Amnesty thing is obviously very important to both of them.

Let’s take bets on how soon some GOP nitwits start telling us what a great ‘conservative’ latino Geraldo Rivera is now that he has an R next to his name.

I guess a lot of us are desperate for a real leader. I listened to his speech and was very impressed. Can’t say that for many that have run for president.

He doesn’t have a bimbo problem that I’ve ever heard of( Baltimore isnt a very big city)... He does however have a very intense full time job, and runs a charity with his wife.

Who knows what exactly he will do in the future once he retires... He certainly has been one of the most successful pediatric brain surgeons in the country.

That said, his speech was terrific!
And in many ways ANTI political... his most cogent point was when he described how 5 signers of the Declaration were Doctors and how WE need more professions to get involved in Government than just lawyers.
Particularly as Carson pointed out, a lawyers mission is to win at all costs... and as we have seen, lawyers on the right and left have alienated EVERYONE.

Just for the record, you have yet to say something I disagree with.

Nevertheless, Americans, who seem to know the least about race, are the most obsessed with it.

I was impressed with what I HEARD from Carson at the prayer breakfast rather than what I SAW. Carson undressed President Obama, and the media. He did so in a way that elected Republicans have either been incapable of doing, or too scared to. Breath of fresh air.

I’m impressed by what white people say daily

90% of whites in my homestate vote GOP...plenty say great things...some are even docs too

A non white of ambiguous voting history utters some conservative polemics even in earshot of Obama

Freepers have politigasms and tout them for Potus

Never fails

Silly.....an absurd jungle fever for those who think color is some miracle cure

That kneejerk white guilt is the primary reason week have lost our country

I detest it.....even though i too had it in the 70s

Don’t need a lecture about “white guilt”, for one simple reason...I’m not white. And it’s not a good idea to assume that all Freepers ARE. That’s just like the libs assuming that all Tea Partiers must, by definition, be white.

I don’t assume diddly and I don’t give special points to non white conservatives

Values and love of America and our culture ought not be race based

This forum is at least 99% non hispanic white.

So it is understandable to assume most here are just that unless known otherwise

Were Carson just another white guy who spouts conservative polemics he wouldn’t get the time of day here

Being black makes him special to those who just have to have such meaning in their lives

The dear man admits to voting democrat before Obama

Its a good thing you are not white

White people are stupid as hell about black folks....and soft as july butter

Let’s back up a second. When I first saw the WSJ headline “Ben Carson for President”, what came to mind was “too soon”. Too soon for Carson or ANYONE for that matter to be touted for the job, especially less than three months after the LAST election. So we may agree about the article. But, I’m not bothered by Carson himself, as you seem to be. He was a Democrat earlier? SO WHAT? Reagan was too. As for Carson’s speech, I loved it. How many times over the last four years have you pulled your hair out watching elected Republicans, always on defense, unable to put together a cogent message to counter Obama’s propaganda? Carson’s message was simple, digestible and most of all UNAFRAID. That’s what appealed to me, and apparently a lot of other folks. What got my antenna up about your response was that for someone lecturing others about “values and love of America not being race based”, you seemed to be mighty preoccupied with race. There are plenty of “white men” who say plenty of smart stuff (Beck, Limbaugh, Levin, etc). The problem is that the drop off in talent from the aforementioned to ELECTED Republicans is breath taking. And a primary qualification of ANYONE (black, white, green, blue) aspiring to lead the conservative comeback must be the ability to communicate, to the well informed AND to low information voters. Carson may be able to. Not many can. Last thing: My outlook on things has been shaped over three generations of being a minority within a minority. Hasn’t been the easiest road to travel. So PLEASE, no assumptions and no condescension.

I do not care that you are a minority

So what

I address what you say not what you are....being black or whatever is beside the point....or should be....plenty posters will suck up for that

Carson is black and says a few cool things

So what ?

Were he white no one would pay him anymore attention than any other white conservative guy

If you want a candid racial conversation with a white guy here im your man

If you want that

I can tell you how that feels too

But what’s the point of it

From the start, everything from you boils down to “black”, “white”, “black”, “white”. Sounds like prison. I was tempted to do a word count of the number of times you’ve used the terms in this one thread, while preaching color blindness. I hope for both of us that conservatives find a messenger to lead us out of the wilderness, and I hope for your sake that messenger is white.
