Dayton: Tax Cuts Caused Minn. Economic Problems

Gov. Mark Dayton says in his State of the State speech that past state income tax cuts are partly to blame for chronic budget problems in Minnesota and that political leaders cannot afford to keep delaying difficult tax and spending decisions.

Dayton is delivering the annual speech Wednesday night in the state House chamber. He says in advance excerpts provided by his office that income tax cuts in the late '90s were followed by a decade where Minnesota's economy fared worse than the nation as a whole and most other states.

The speech is largely a pitch for Dayton's proposal to hike income taxes on the wealthy and expand the state sales tax to more purchases.

Prove it Mr Dayton, show us where "tax cuts" decreased revenue to the government?

It looks to me like states are pretty much dividing up into red and blue in most all respects - rtw, taxes, environment etc.

Minnesota looks like a good candidate to follow the California model. Go ahead and crank those taxes!

Hey Gov.Dayton! Look for the Union label. The public service unions are bleeding the taxpayer dry. That and corrupt politicians.

Ask Dayton for the figures on how many Somali’s are getting all kinds of USA benefits???

I cannot imagine you could come to Minnesota from Somalia and find yourself equiped for any kind of job here. I don’t remember many ads for pirates in the Minnesota or Wisconsin area.

Being Keynesian mercatilists, that’s how libs think. Not only is money kept by those who earned it stealing from the gubmint, gubmint spending is magical. When you spend you merely trade digits for goods and services; when gubmint spends a, “multiplier effect” goes along with it. So private individuals are in effect handing things back and forth, while gubmint actually produces things.

“Go ahead and crank those taxes!”

Hey!!! Some of us are already paying our “fair share.”

It just floors me that politicians, for the most part, don’t think for one second that overspending *might* be the actual cause of the budget problem.

People, get used to, get ready for this -

as the economy goes to hell, the left will increasingly and more vociferously start blaming YOU for causing it.

And when the big crash happens, it’ll be our fault.

Governor Goofy also claimed credit for two years of job creation in his speech, signing policies into law that were created by the GOP-controlled Legislature.

The man has issues. Real issues. I know my state taxes didn’t drop and aren’t likely to drop any time soon.

As with the Federal government, Minnesota state government doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.

The ones who will attempt to work many times apply at temporary staffing agencies. They’ll work for just long enough to qualify for unemployment, then quit. The unemployment hearing judges in MN are very liberal and approve nearly all requests.

This is one of the reasons why we moved from MN last year.

Saw the handwriting on the wall with all the "give-aways" and freebies to one and all (except anyone that worked that is).

Had a brief discussion with hubby about moving back after we retired, but laughed that one off -- what for ?

So, “Governor,” please do explain... how does less money to the state slow economic growth. This should be fun.

These fools need to be reminded that government is not part of the private economy and its not a productive part of the economy as a whole.

Wasn’t it over the last several years under a repub controlled house that a 11.1 billion or so deficit was reduced to 1.1 billion? Somehow leaving a 1.1 billion budget deficit is worse than leaving one ten times that large?!!! Liberal newthink at it’s finest...
