Calling All Free Republic Baby Boomers (Born 1946 to 1964)
US Census ^ | 1 Feb 13 | Xzins

Posted on 02/01/2013 5:18:02 AM PST by xzins

The US Census Bureau, in "The Older Population" indicates that Baby Boomers are defined as follows:

6 The Baby Boom includes people born from mid-1946 to 1964. The Baby Boom is distinguished by a dramatic increase in birth rates following World War II, and is one of the largest generations in U.S. history. For more information, see: Hogan, Perez, and Bell, 2008, Who (Really) Are the First Baby Boomers? In Joint Statistical Meetings Proceedings, Social Statistics Section, Alexandria, VA: American Statistical Association, pp. 1009–1016.

You are now from about 50 to 67 years old, and you are the glad result of WWII and Korean Era parents celebrating an advancing America. You saw the origin of television, the advent of the space program, the determination of the cold war, the fear of nuclear holocaust, the change from slide rules to calculators, the dawn of the computer age, and the wonder of worldwide, at-your-fingertips communication.

You've also seen the nation spiral from a moral beacon of personal and political freedom to the chaos of dependency, distraction, and self-indulgence that defines our entitlement society.

What is your prescription for this America?

What will this nation look like in the year 2030?

Why are you a member/user of Free Republic? How does your being here advance your concerns for your nation?

I'm a baby boomer and I think we have been a spectacular failure as a “generation.” It started with Vietnam and has continued throughout our lives. With a few notable exceptions we are the most self centered whinny incompetent generation in American history.
Our generation has failed to produce a single political leader we have only produced incompetent politicians of both parties. We squandered the wealth of industrialized America and instead of leaving a future for our kids and grand kids we have left them a pile of debt and no job.
I am confident that America will barely survive our generation but survive it will....
The only lasting positive contribution I can see this generation making is to show the subsequent generations how its not done..
The sooner our influence is gone from American life the better but unfortunately we will be here another 40 or 50 years.
I come to FR and find it useful because as with all broad generalizations there are some “boomers” here that have bucked the generation all their live and actually have contributed to American life...

Born in ‘53, here....and have no answers.
Was raised from age of 9 in the SanFrancisco Bay Area so I saw the 60s and 70s culture change up close and personally. At first I kind of liked it as a teenager: drove my parents crazy by wearing Army surplus clothes, going to rock concerts...I even voted Peace and Freedom party once or twice.
But my mother survived Nazi-occupied France and was a huge Reagan supporter and kept our perspectives in line most of the time. I ended up serving my country for ten years in the Navy.
Now I’m a converted Catholic, raised my kid in conservative Catholic schools, volunteer and give money to conservative causes, recently got into guns and adore my Free Republic...and what good does it do? My kid is great, has a wonderful, faithful girl friend, a secure job and bright future...maybe that’s all that matters and all we can do?
The country is, at this point, to my mind, a questionable save...

um... actually the greatest generation refers to the generation before the baby boomers, the WW2 generation.

Do not give up. You never know, there may be a good, conservative baby boomer out there that has learned from its mistakes.

The poor Joneser’s I have always felt sorry for them, it's like they showed up for a party that just ended with nothing left but the mess and a skanky ho riddled with gonorrhea and crabs to take home who only wants to talk about how great the party was before you got there.

Thanks very much, dearest xzins. Without too much thought, and given it's early in the morning and I'm a late night old girl ....yikes!

1. What is your prescription for this America?

Never surrender, never retreat. Reload. Try our level best to elect TEA Party, God loving Conservatives, like Ted Cruz whom Sarah Palin endorsed and supported. Fight ever libtard piece of legislation that comes out of DC and from local and state levels. Get and stay involved!

Pray faithfully and often, for one another and for our Republic. Realize that with Him and through Him all things are possible.

Keep family and friends close and cherish both. Prepare for the worse, but don't dwell on it. Maintain a bright outlook.

2. What will this nation look like in the year 2030?

Seventeen years from now? Jesus, Mary and Joseph. We likely won't have a Republic, if obamacare is implemented, and if the Marxist appoints two more SCOTUS justices and a Conservative doesn't win in 2016.

Otherwise, I am hopeful, this ship called America, can possibly be righted between 2016-2020 with a Conservative president and both House of Congress in Conservative hands. A sea change is in order. The pendulum must drastically swing to the Right.

3. Why are you a member/user of Free Republic? How does your being here advance your concerns for your nation?

I love FR and all of my many FRiends. I think FReepers are truly the absolute best. Rock solid, brilliant, humorous, prayerful, dependable and so very generous with time and money. We're self-supporting to this day! FReepers alone, keep FR up and running strong. FR is OUR forum, OUR home. On behalf of Jim, I can't thank you all enough for your generous donations, large and small. Every contribution counts!

Jim created a unique forum that remains unmatched. We pray together, we laugh together, we meet in person at events and we make a difference!

FReepers have impacted politics! Think Florida 2000!!! Think Rathergate!!! Our Nation will hear from us again. Count on it!

2013 is already presenting challenges. The gun grab is directly related to the implementing of obamacare. They must first disarm us. NOT happening.

God bless and Keep you all. FReep On!

I never really identified with the Boomers either. I am a bit older than you, but we fall into Boomer sub-group called ‘Generation Jones’:

http://www.generationjones.com/

It’s the 1954-1965 age group. I hated hippies, and can’t stand almost anything 1960’s. I identify with the 70’s (minus disco, of course! yuck!) LOL!

Basically I have spent my entire life in the turbulent wake of the 60's generation from when I was ridiculed at 4 YO because I couldn't hula hoop, to the "new celibacy" just as I wanted to become sexually active, lost a great opportunity because of affirmative action PC, and on and on.

I feel the same way... born in '59, always a step behind.

I read yesterday that a wave of 70's nostalgia is coming in the movie theater... by that, they mean a movie about Linda Lovelace... great. THAT's what we get remembered for. :-(

But... in that article, I did read something that really resonated with me. People are looking back at the 70's as the "last generation before the explosion of the computer age.... ie: the calm before the storm".

It really was.... By the time I started working in 1981, computers were starting to appear... Truly, it was a few more years before I'd say the "storm" started... that came with connectivity, email.

But, the 70's were pretty much "computer free"... at the personal level. So, we'll always have that! :-)

America can save itself doing these things:

End Free Trade. It does not work. You do not create jobs in the US by shipping them to Communist China....even WalMart is realizing this. Our nation grew economically when we had tariffs on foreign goods instead of income taxes.

End civil rights: With whites now the minority in many areas you do not need civil or special rights for non-White minorities anymore. In fact civil rights are just racism these days

Encourage small business...break up multi-national companies. We need to bring back the small proprietor...the Mom & Pop stores. The large box stores will no longer be profitable with smaller on-line businesses being more practical. End all tax breaks, subsidies, and protective free trade deals that keep the multi-nat dinosaurs around

Just some ideas. We definitely need to move from Economic Anti-Americanism (Globalism) and back to American Exceptionalism

I can remember growing up and thinking.... America was so brilliant to basically wipe out the Indians that were here as thus avoid a South Africa / South America type situation.

But I have recently concluded that we overlooked something...

The fact that North America is still attached to South America.

My state is being flooded with Indians (yes I said Indians!) because that's what they are! these “Hispanics” are nothing more than Indians with a haircut.

I heard yesterday that the Indians now outnumber the whites in California... Let me tell you, Texan isn't far behind! along with the entire South West.

And there is NOTHING that can or more correctly WILL be done to stop it.

It's over for the US.

And the worst part is? There is really no where left to run. Europe is being flooded with Muslims the same way as we are being flooded with Indians.

Within 30 years western civilization will crumble under the weight of the 3rd world masses.

The only beacons of hope I see are Australia and New Zealand because they are completely cut off.

“If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land”.

There is only One Way out of America’s dilemma...God’s Way. If America fails, Christians will be to blame.

What is your prescription for this America?

Complete overhaul of our tax system... to something like the FAIR TAX.

TERM LIMITS for all politicians... no more than 12 years for ANY of them.

A constitutional BAN on gerry-mandering. Make it a requirement that congressional districts be "As geograpically symetrical as practical". To hell with the impact on minority representation... it IS the way we should be organized.

What will this nation look like in the year 2030?

That's only 17 more years... I think we'll be around, and be OK. By then, the financial crash will have come... and, a lot of today's free-loaders will be out there working... because they HAVE to. People do, what they HAVE TO do. Families will be stronger.... since they'll be living together.

I simply can't imaging the technological advances that will be around.... I just know, they will be AMAZING! :-)

Why are you a member/user of Free Republic? How does your being here advance your concerns for your nation?

It's the best place on the web to get news... big and small, and get informed opinions about it. It also allows like-minded people to connect. If/when the call goes out to defend our Republic, we know who the called will be. We're here.

I963 here. My parents were in their 40’s when I was born; my dad was a WWII vet and a railroad engineer. My mom had a caesarean; rummaging around in their papers I found a bill from the anesthesiologist. It was $29.25.

I think we need a return to God, to Christian principles, and to true conservatism.

I’m here because, in three years of lurking, on every thread I would find someone who put into words exactly what I was thinking. I knew I had to join up.

We don’t have a government problem, we have a God problem. The country needs to repent and turn to God. Putting faith in political leaders is a hopeless endeaver.

According to the authors William Strauss and Neil Howe, the people born between 1961 and 1981 are the 13ers. Which means we are the 13th generation of Americans. We are also known as Gen X. I have never considered myself to be a boomer, born in 1961. After reading the book written by these authors "The History of America's Future 1584 to 2069, Generations" their description of generation 13 is dead on. We will be the ones to "clean up" the mess of the Boomers and of course we will not get any credit for it. Our generation will soon dominate the leadership in this country and the GOOD NEWS is that we are the most conservative generation alive.
I am optimistic about our future, but it will take time and our generation will suffer the most. But if we work hard the next 2 generations will still have an America.
