Sen. David Vitter on Wednesday called Florida Sen. Marco Rubio “amazingly naïve” and “nuts” on the issue of immigration and slammed the new bipartisan reform proposal as “ridiculous.”
The Louisiana Republican told “The Laura Ingraham Show” that the blueprint unveiled by a group of eight senators is a plan that mirrors the “same old” failed immigration reform of 1986. Rubio’s belief that enforcement mechanisms will work this time around is “just amazingly naïve,” Vitter said.
“I love and respect Marco. I think he’s just amazingly naïve on this issue,” Vitter said. “This is the same old formula that we’ve dealt with before, including when it passed in 1986, and that is promises of enforcement and immediate amnesty. And of course, the promises of enforcement never materialize. The amnesty happens immediately — the millisecond the bill is signed into law, and the same is true here. No, they won’t be citizens immediately. They will be legal.”
“Citizenship is guaranteed at that point as a practical matter,” he added.
Vitter said that if the Florida Republican doesn’t think legal status offers a pathway to citizenship, “he’s nuts.”

Big difference between Reagan’s amnesty and Rubio-Obama Amnesty....we did not have a previous Illegal Alien Amnesty to use as a precedent in 1986. We know now that Illegal Alien Amnesty does not work...yet Rubio-Obama and the Gang of 8 still are going to push another failed Illegal Alien Amnesty bill

The Republican position should be: show us you’re serious by enforcing the immigration laws now on the books for the next four years, then we’ll talk about any new legislation needed.

BTW : I am on a ‘no-citizenship for illegals’ mission here (no to Rubs amnesty) so only legal immigrants would have that path to the vote but not these undoc victims, but they would be able to live here if they choose since this is the only country many have known if they were brought here at say 6 yros.

The idea of marking them as criminals because of ‘who they are’ rather than ‘what they did’ is a loser, even though the idea helped Mitt win the primary. Its reminds many of Nazi Germany Gold Stars.
That gives them all a legal opportunity to sell their property or make other arrangements and get to the border unmolested. After that they are felons.
