WASHINGTON As the Senate prepares to begin debating new gun control measures, some of President Barack Obama's fellow Democrats are poised to frustrate his efforts to enact the most sweeping limits on weapons in decades.
These Democrats from largely rural states with strong gun cultures view Obama's proposals warily and have not committed to supporting them. The lawmakers' concerns could stand in the way of strong legislation before a single Republican gets a chance to vote "no."
There's a core group of Democratic senators, most but not all from the West, who represent states with a higher-than-average rate of gun ownership but an equally strong desire to feel their kids are safe," said Mark Glaze, director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns. "They're having hard but good conversations with people back home to identify the middle-ground solutions that respect the Second Amendment but make it harder for dangerous people to get their hands on guns."
All eyes are on these dozen or so Democrats, some of whom face re-election in 2014. That includes Sens. Max Baucus of Montana, Mark Begich of Alaska and Mark Pryor of Arkansas.

How about not letting obvious nuts run around unsupervised? That will do more good than all the attempted gun bans in the world.
Operative word: “DEMOCRAT”
We thought that some might put the brakes on Obamacare, didn’t we? But they were bought after all.
Even if these “Blue-dog” democrats end up opposing Obama’s attempted gun grab, they still must be defeated in the next election cycle. You just can’t trust their party affiliation. You can barely trust a lot of Republicans either, but that is a another matter we can fix in the primaries.
These ignorant Democrats better think it would be better to vote against King Obama’s gun control or face total destruction during the up and coming Revolutionary War. Government will be overthrown and then reestablished according to the Constitution that will replace the partial dictatorship that we have now.
Yea, like the stood in the way of socialized medicine.
They are just drawing straws right now.
To Congress and the Senate:
Vote this down big.
I am serious.
Forget about the guns....REGISTER THE DAMN LIBERALS!!
Political theater. This will give them “conservative” bona fides for 2014. I stood against the most radical gun grab in American history - now vote for me!
Obama’s working to inoculate them from the coming economic disaster and the financial tsunami that is Obamacare.
This is straight out of the Cook County Democrat playbook. That’s Axelrod all the way. It reminds me of Marty Tuchow.
To Cringing Negativism Network:
Sorry, the opinions of the hoi polloi aren’t our concern.
Sincerely,
Congress (which includes the Senate)
PS who are you? We have an IRS audit with your name on it.
When push comes to shove, every one of these rat bastards will bow to the feet of the boy king.
“Democrats may stand in Obama’s way on gun measures”
Don’t anyone on FreeRepublic believe this for a moment.
When the time comes, and the orders come from “up above”, watch the ‘rats race to line up in a row to vote “aye” on gun control...
The senators from rural states voted for obamacare. What’s to stop them from voting for gun control.
This may very well be a sneaky means to water down a bit Frankenfeinstein's bill so that it can be voted 'yea to more 'Rats to get it to pass. Pubbies should push to have Frankenfeinstein's frankenstein voted as-is, up-or-down, where it, and ALL its ilk, can be voted down. Period.
I wouldn’t bet on it.
Just like they blocked him on Obamacare.....
For the ten billionth time, the 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with target shooting, hunting or collecting.
I think so too. They are in the process of threatening all the wobble dems with pulling committee chairmanships, ending DNC campaign contributions and maybe even jail like Jim Traficant shortly after he spoke out about Clinton.
I don’t trust any of them, including the GOP on this. They have a history of being spineless. They cave at the slightest pressure.
Reading this headline reminds me Obamacare..........and in the end they just had to do it out of so much “caring”
