By Mrs. FEINSTEIN (for herself, Mr. SCHUMER, Mr. DURBIN, Mr. WHITEHOUSE, Mr. BLUMENTHAL, Mr. LEVIN, Mr. ROCKEFELLER, Ms. MIKULSKI, Mrs. BOXER, Mr. REED, Mr. LAUTENBERG, Mr. MENENDEZ, Mr. CARDIN, Mrs. GILLIBRAND, Mr. SCHATZ, Mr. MURPHY, Ms. WARREN, and Mr. CARPER):
S. 150. A bill to regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes; to the Committee on the Judiciary.
Mrs. FEINSTEIN. Mr. President, I rise today to introduce the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013. This legislation is urgently needed to help end the mass shootings that have devastated countless families and that lead too many Americans to live their lives in fear.
**snip** It will be an uphill battle--all the way. I know this.
But we need to ask ourselves:
Do we let the gun industry take over and dictate policy to this country? Do we let those who profit from increasing sales of these military style-weapons prevent us from taking commonsense steps to stop the carnage?
Or should we empower our elected representatives to vote their conscience based on their experience, based on their sense of right and wrong and based on their need to protect their schools, their malls, their workplaces and their businesses?
This legislation is my life's goal. As long as I am a member of the Senate, I will work night and day to pass this bill into law. No matter how long it takes, I will fight until assault weapons are taken off our streets.
Put simply, we cannot allow the rights of a few to override the safety of all. That is not the America that our founding fathers envisioned. And that is not the America I want my children and grandchildren to live in.
So I ask everyone watching at home: please get involved and stay involved.
The success or failure of this bill depends not on me, but on you. If the American people rise up and demand action from their elected officials, we will be victorious. If the American people say ``no'' to military-style assault weapons, we will rid our Nation of this scourge.
Please, talk to your senator and your member of Congress.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety - Benjamin Franklin
Remember the names guys! Treason has a price.
I feel threatened and unsafe every time this bimbo opens her fat mouth.
I say we can’t let the free speech rights of a few override my fear of idiots.
“Put simply, we cannot allow the rights of a few to override the safety of all.”
Rights cannot be restricted because a few screwballs abuse them. That’s like saying because a drunk driver steals a vehicle and kills a bunch of people that I am not allowed to have a car.
Dear Sen. Feinmess,
You were not elected to “vote your conscience”, you dumb cow! You were elected to represent your constituents. Do you have even the foggiest idea whether the majority of them are for this ban? Do you care?
Nice point.
The rights in question are the rights of all.
That the majority choose to not exercise those rights does not invalidate them for the minority who choose to.
Would that they were “liberals”. They are totalitarians.
I love capitalism. I’ll take the food concessions and sell souvenirs.
We’re going to make a killing on this. ;>)
Man do I wish we had a vote of no-confidence and simply fire them.
That’s a heap o’ hangin’ for one morning, there, Gator.
Just like the people who keep re-electing her.
“Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said perhaps mistakes were made in the botched gun-walking program known as Fast and Furious, but she said trying to assign blame misses the larger problem.”
In other words, she echoes Hillary’s take on the Obamanation’s coverups, “What difference does it make?”
And they question why people want to defend themselves against tyranny!
Ask her if the 2% of gays have the right to push there lifestyles on the 98%, and claim they are normal, she will say YES.
She can rot in hell.
American “exceptionalism” is that its Republic form of government with its separation of powers and levels was designed for maximum protection of the individual’s rights from the majority. As is pointedly stated in the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, there are rights retained by the individual FROM government. The second Amendment clearly states that the right to keep and bear arms is one of those individual rights.
As James Wilson stated:
“It [sovereignty] resides in the PEOPLE, as the fountain of government.” “They have not parted with it; they have only dispensed such portions of power as were conceived necessary for the public welfare.”
Through the written document of the Constitution of the United States, the people of each State delegated power to a President and federal Congress to serve as their agents, authorized to act only through specific institutions and in specifically enumerated areas that represented selective attributes of national sovereignty. Similar to a limited “power of attorney,” the federal government, as an agent, has no authority to assume powers beyond those specified.
It is irrelevant whether Senator Feinstein in her questionable wisdom feels that it better for all to seize control of guns. She simply was not delegated that power by the People. To do what she is doing exceeds the limitations of her power, violating the consent of the people and making us all “subjects” of some run away federal imperial rule.
We are talking about the rights of every adult in this nation who is not crazy or a felon. So I guess the socialist witch from Cali thinks there are just a few of us out here.
STUPID,STUPID,STUPID,STUPID,STUPID,STUPID,STUPID,STUPID,witch of the west.....
Talk about the Whose Who of liberal douche-bags ! And Liz Warren, the so-called “real” American Indian signed her name on the bill. How many years are we going to have to see Ms. Warren in the Senate. A bad dream like Boxer and Feinstein.
These people are tyrants.
