"Most people are law-abiding citizens and may go ahead and sell those or turn those over, but you're going to have a fraction of people that are going to take a stand, and I can just predict a Waco-style standoff in some rural area and it's not going to end well," Gloversville, New York Mayor Dayton King (R) said about New York state's new gun control laws that Gov. Cuomo recently signed into law.

"New York state's new gun control laws"

Even after all the NY State Waco events have come to pass, there will still be criminals and lunatics in the State of NY with "illegal" weapons.

Why do the New York PD need to be outfitted like they are in Afghanistan?

no, these asshats want the damage to occur. because that’s their excuse to justify themselves then. see, they were nuts, they wouldn’t turn them over.

good is evil, evil is good. they make the unconstitutional lawful, and the lawful, into criminals by their unconstitutional laws.

That is their objective. A couple of those and their hope is that Americans will bow and kiss their boots.

Because NYC is a fashion capitol and the NYPD like to dress the part they are given.

A question out of curiousity: If one is a NY citizen owning banned guns and moves them to a state where a second home or relative is located, is he still in violation? Seems to me this might be an encroachment on neighboring state laws as well.

History repeats.

Our revolutionary era commissioners in Europe, among them John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Jay, were astounded at the grinding poverty of the masses and the wealth of the nobles. That the princes feared the peasants was evident by their heavily armed security entourages. Government buildings were also stoutly defended by muskets with bayonets fixed.

They were relieved that in our fledgling republics, where the people were sovereign, and government was servant and not master, the specter of standing armies to protect the government was an irrelevant impossibility.

In the 1970s I saw much the same in various Navy liberty ports in Europe; soldiers always posted at various points throughout the cities. I thanked God that would never happen in America.

Now, in my tiny county in north Florida, (population 15,000) I must go through a metal detector manned by an armed deputy to enter the courthouse. To enter the county commissioners meeting room within the courthouse, I must do the same; empty pockets and submit to a search.

I refuse to fly on an airline for the same reason I will not again enter my county courthouse; I am not a criminal, I am not dangerous and refuse to conduct myself as if I were.

I don't think the ruling class understands they are fast losing all legitimacy. When that happens, order can only be maintained by pure force, and not reason.

They will never take my guns.

Dayton King does not sound like a Republican.

But then again, what does a (R) sound like these days?

exactly.

In order to “save the children” — Reno sent in the tanks and burned them alive.

four times more the carnage than Sandy Hook

Ah, but you don’t understand — all those security measures are for YOUR protection because of the many terrorists around.

You do remember 9/11/2001, don’t you with all them airplanes colliding with all them buildings?

Now do you remember what “religion” all of the terrorists practiced — every one of them? Don’t tell me, let me guess.

Since then we have imported millions of these religionists and more are coming in every day and your life is now in much more danger than what it was 30 years ago.

Do you now understand why there are so many people running around in body armor carrying assault rifles? It is all for your own good. But why continue importing these religionists, you’ll ask.

That’s the Catch 22.

I don’t think the ruling class understands they are fast losing all legitimacy. When that happens, order can only be maintained by pure force, and not reason.

The ruling class also forgets we know where they live or can be found.

If I remember my history, subject population when deprived of the same sort of weapons that the ruling class and their “men-at-arms” used came up with ingenious alternatives.

China and Japan, Korea and many of the other Asiatic nations developed unarmed combat regimens. Some even learned how to adapt common farming implements into amazing weapons.

My point here is that once they set foot on the road to tyranny and set themselves above the people they were elected to serve then all bets are off. They obviously have thought about this for some time now and now they intend to act.

How the people reacts should be totally unconventional and asymmetric in turn. Another Freeper has talked of a Militia of one. It’s a good idea to me. One can keep a secret, two have a difficult time doing so.

Apparently Mayor King thinks the U.S. is a long way down the road to open totalitarianism. We should heed his warning and prepare appropriately.

The victims of Waco were law abiding citizens in that
they were not convicted of any crime.

Conservatives should think about abandoning liberal cess pits like NY State and move to areas where their productivity, taxes and votes will make a difference.

Oh, they'll think about it all right. But for 99.5%, actually moving would be quixotic, hugely inconvenient, and might have unpleasant financial ramifications.

“...Why do the New York PD need to be outfitted like they are in Afghanistan?...”

In case us peons get “uppity”...

A long, long time ago, I remember other uniforms and helmets that looked eerily similar... and a little guy with a funny mustache and greasy hair was telling them to take the peoples’ guns then, too...

Funny how that works, ain’t it?

We all know how THAT turned out. Lessons for people in power to remember...
