There are no gun shops in Chicago, so they say, but murders are on pace to hit 730 for 2013. Guns are usually the weapons that the killers choose to use.
Two teenage boys were murdered over the weekend, and guns were the weapons used by the killers. One victim, 14-year-old Rey Dorantes, was reportedly shot while sitting on the front porch of his home. Fifteen-year-old Victor Vega was reportedly walking with another male when they were approached by an armed man who opened fire, killing Vega. In separate incidents, four other people were wounded via gunfire, and all but one of them were under the age of 17. There have been 21 homicides in Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago since the start of 2013. At least 15 of the victims were shot to death, and more than half were under the age of 30. It’s not known yet whether either boy’s murder was gang related, but Chicago police believe that the majority of murders committed within the city are the result of gang wars and gang violence.
According to a story published in March 2012, Chicago’s gang-related statistics are alarming:
Chicago is home to the largest gang population in the country, Fox Chicago reported in January. The Chicago Crime Commission reports 73 active gangs with 68,000 to 150,000 gang members in the city.
Territory issues are bound to happen with such large numbers of gangs chasing after the same profit. Uptowns Wilson and Broadway cross section exemplifies this competition
You look at the [Latin] Kings that tried to move into the area here, said Pat Gordon, supervisor of the Uptown neighborhood branch of ONE/CeaseFire. It didnt come to fruition because there were too many gangs already in the area.
Gordon said that the intersection is a war zone between the Black P. Stones on the West and the Vice Lords on the East two gangs that take the profitability of that corner very seriously.
The unusual alliance between the Stones and another Chicago super gang would incite tension with the Kings, who are a cousin gang of the Stones under the Peoples Nation, according to Gordon.
ONE/CeaseFire intervened before conflict escalated. The Kings returned to their turf on Lawrence and Ashland.
Just like a business, if you cant bring in a profit to make ends meet at the end of the day, then its going to fall through, he continued.
The primary business that the gangs engage in is illegal drug trafficking. Most illegal drugs are shipped into the U.S. from outside the country, with numerous paths crossing the border from Mexico. Mexico has seen far more than its share of gang-related violence over the past few years, with an estimated 60,000 killed in the drug cartel wars there in the past few years. That number is almost surely too low, because it does not take into account many killings that have taken place on the north side of the U.S.-Mexico border. There is strong evidence that at least some law enforcement on the U.S. side downplay cartel violence in their jurisdictions in order to make their crime statistics look better, so they can get re-elected, and keep federal crime grant money flowing their way.
The United States Department of Justice began designating U.S. cities that followed certain immigration-related policies “sanctuary cities” back in the 1980s. Chicago has been a “sanctuary city” since that designation was created. “Sanctuary cities” allow law enforcement to look the other way when immigration status might come up in the course of an investigation. To put things maybe a little too simply, illegal aliens know that once they reach a sanctuary city like Chicago they are for all intents and purposes home free from questions about their immigration status. The Latin Kings, MS-13 and other gangsters can recruit and import foot soldiers south of the border and rest assured that once in Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago, the police will not query whether they are in the country legally or not. They are free to kill.
I’m not suggesting that all of Chicago’s current wave of violence is related to its sanctuary city policies. I am suggesting that some of it is, because that’s obvious. I am also suggesting that before the likes of Jesse Jackson demand “compromise” from law-abiding Americans who own guns, they should take a hard, honest look at the long-term effects of policies that they support. Sanctuary city policies exacerbate lawlessness from the border to thousands of points north. Do away with those policies and others that make our citizens and legal aliens less safe, before even thinking about cracking down on responsible Americans and their right to self-defense.
Partially.
The other part of the equation is this: you aren’t allowed to defend yourself in Chicago.
Criminals are emboldened when the population is held in forced victimhood.
Illegals are a big part of the problem. However, when there is a a blue state with a left wing governor and a blue city with a left wing mayor and city council more interested in harassing cops and preventing good citizens from getting gun, the crime rate is incredible.
Oakland, Ca has several of its citizens slaughtered each week inspite of very strict gun control laws.

Vice Mayor Larry Reid said this weekend that Oakland should declare a state of emergency following a string of murders Friday that Oakland police linked to several rival gangs.
Reacting to the violence on Saturday, Reid told Bay Area News Group, “We’ve lost control. It’s time for us to declare a state of emergency.”
There were 131 homicides in Oakland in 2012, the most since 2006, when there were 148. So far this year Oakland has had 6 homicides— 4 of which happened on Friday.
According to police, a 22-year-old Oakland man shot and killed around 2:30 p.m. Friday in the 2300 block of East 17th Street in the Fruitvale District. His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
Around 3 p.m., another man was shot and killed on Canon Avenue near Wellington Street, next to Dimond Park. He was identified as 30-year-old former Oakland resident Larry Lovette of Stockton.
At 4:15 p.m., 21-year-old Oakland man Eddiebo Rodriguez was fatally shot in the 3400 block of West Street in West Oakland. He later died at the hospital.
In East Oakland, a 17-year-old boy identified as Ken Harbin of Oakland was also fatally shot in the 9400 block of Hillside Street.
Police say they are now investigating a shooting in East Oakland that sent one person to the hospital on Saturday night as well as a shooting that injured three people earlier in the day in the 5800 block of Harmon Avenue.

Lawlessness by elected officials
will breed more lawlessness.
Look. The criminals have no problem getting guns. And they don’t do it legally. There is a huge flow of illegal guns into ghetto areas, and the politicians don’t give a dam. All they care about is taking guns from honest, law-abiding people.
They deliberately leave guns in the hands of violent criminals.
Interesting theory. I dunno though. Los Angeles and New York are sanctuary cities too, and their murder rates have plummeted for the past decade, and are now at 1950’s levels. Maybe it needs to be a “combo” between lots of poor blacks, lots of illegal aliens, and not a lot else — like Oakland, also mentioned in the article, for example. Los Angeles and New York don’t have that many blacks, as a percentage of the total, and a lot of the blacks that they do have aren’t poor at all.
There is a correlation. Only wacko left administrations set up a “sanctuary city” and they are the ones whose far left policies lead to violent crime.
New York City also has a handgun ban, but Chicago has a higher murder rate. Chicago residents probably have lower morals and less respect for life.

As the ghouls swoop in on Blows infamatory rhetoric promoted by The New York Times with directionless rebuttal or meaningless responses laughed at by its staffers. I’m.not even sure if a C.M.Blow is even listed on the NYT staff .
I submit the purpose of this article is to keep the right focused on their issue not on the problems created by the “Libs” on their road of good intentions and these are :
Not one word will be there in Blows mindless contribution to the solution which ignores the gangland murders and shootings using illegaly obtained mostly handguns and revolvers not assault weapons .
Blow certainly cant critique a system created by his ilk and ignored by his publication that when once caught, perps get set free with lenient sentencing from liberal judges or sob sister plea bargain prosecution promoted by The New York Times. Theres certainly no criticism of no snitch mentality partcularly in areas where these shootings are rampant.
What do you expect an honest look at the problem from The New York Times ? Theyre incapable thats why theyre going broke...Printing tripe from people like C.M.Blow
While attempting to deal with the latest diversion by the Demo-Coms who would if they had their druthers eliminate the constitution period not just the 2nd ammendment. Respond citing these issues mentioned here
Spot on! It’s time we focus on the real culprits: gangs and their illegal drug operations.
When you tell generations of layabouts they are entitled to whatever they desire without doing anything for it, as a matter of right, then eventually they will decide to just take what they want from whoever and cut out the government middleman.
Good point, NYC also has strict gun laws but the number of gun murders in Chicago is higher even though NYC has nearly 3 times the residents.
NYC also occasionally elects Republicans (most of them are RINOs) though I believe Dems outnumber Republicans 5 to 1 in voter registration there. Chicago never elects Republicans. The lone Republican alderman in Chicago recently retired and was replaced with a RAT.
Do you think that a Republican and/or conservative will run for mayor of Chicago, in 2015? If so, who should run? He or she should try to get at least 30% of the vote, and the candidate’s main goal should be promoting conservative vaules, to help more Republicans win races, for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and the state legislature, in 2016.
Since the city adopted the non-partisan primary format (which I hate) no Republican let alone a conservative has run for Mayor not even last election in the first open seat in a long time.
So I doubt one will run and if they do they will get way under 30%. In the last partisan Mayoral race in 1995 the GOP nominee Ray Wardingly got 2.77% and third place.
If we run do end up having a candidate they should focus on city issues only, the goal should be to build the party in the city as a viable governing alternative and start competing for some of the several wards that could elect GOP Aldermen.
Rudy G though a RINO was great on crime and cleaned up NYC. I wish he’d run for Mayor again.
Since Chicago has non-partisan mayor races, the race should be more likely to have at least one republican candidate, since some voters might not know that he or she is a Republican.
