Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal says military-style guns don't belong on the streets of America

Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal called for “serious” gun control measures on Tuesday, saying the weapons used by his troops in Afghanistan don’t belong on the streets of America. McChrystal said the M4 Carbine he often carried in the military held a .223 caliber round capable of doing “devastating” damage to a human body.

“It’s designed to do that, and that’s what our soldiers ought to carry,” McChrystal said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Tuesday morning. “I personally don’t think there’s any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets and particularly around the schools in America."

That's great! I've been saying in answer to "why do you need an 'assault' rifle?";
'to keep anyone from confiscating my other guns.'

Now, if I could just figure out how to make my print program stop cropping words off the top and bottom. lol (dag gum new software anyway)

He was retired from the military for running his mouth. Some people never learn.

That is another case for my argument that the General should stick to what he knows.

In America we do not have to go to the Armory to get what we need to protect us.

We just got this one in our email and thought others here might appreciate it:

STUPID GUN QUESTION - EXCELLENT ANSWER

Good morning!

Stupid question, excellent answer!

For those who don’t know him, Major General Peter Cosgrove is an
Australian.

General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently.
Read his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and
children.
Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you have to love this!
This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.
This is a portion of an ABC radio interview between a female
broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout
Troop visiting his military Headquarters.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young
boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
We’re going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That’s a bit irresponsible, isn’t it?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don’t see why, they’ll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don’t you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be
teaching children?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don’t see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline
before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you’re equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma’am, you’re equipped to be a prostitute, but you’re not one,
are you?

The broadcast went silent for 46 seconds and when it returned, the
interview was over.
I bet her face would have made lemon juice look like honey.
Think positively!

I found these links about him.

UH OH...this one claims the above is not true. *sigh* - Such a great story, too! Be that as it may, I have not ever heard of the hoax-slayer.com web site. So who knows???

Same thought but I think it's said even better in the poster.

Thanks for the compliment. I actually think I am smart enough to master this software (lol) but I sure don't feel like taking the time to do it. (grumble grumble) I hate new and improved software, updates and stuff like that. Just about the time I get the kinks smoothed out they want me to download the new version. That's not what I want to do on my computer. (gripe grumble snarl) ;-)

I watched several of his recent interviews. He was the picture of a neutered male playing at being the most respectful guy in the room. I would bet he voted for Obama twice. What in the world kind of hold does Obama have on these people??

Aimed precisely a 22lr will kill and do a whole bunch of damage as it ricochets inside you. It’s not the caliber that is the problem it’s the government. The good General has been a government employee all of his life and as such doesn’t understand the 2nd Amendment was initiated so American citizens can stop people like him from using their weapons to steal our rights.

The General has a lot in common with Generals from the Soviet Union, Communist China, Cambodia and the Weimar Republic. How’d that work out fro the citizenry in those countries? The General can kiss my enlisted ass.

When I was in you were not allowed to keep firearms in base housing. You had to keep them in the base armory. If you wanted to use one you had to sign it out.

Really? We kept out M-14s padlocked to our bunks in the barracks and the magazines in our lockers. No ammo around though, but some of us considered taking things out on a weekend, picking up some commercial .308 and doing a little plinking. For some reason, better judgement won the day.

Court martial time I am sure if caught at the gate.

General? He's in favor of gun control with a few exceptions, of course. Maybe it's a class thing. Maybe most present and former enlisted soldiers disagree with the General.

I’ve been retired since 1997 and have been out of the civilian-military loop since then. All I know about Gen. McChrystal is what I’ve read in the papers. Seems like a pretty straight shooter. I would’ve thought that anyone who earned four stars and rose to command one of the U&S Commands, (do they still call them that?) would’ve had something on the ball, and commanded the respect of his troops.
