Al Jazeera Acquires Current TV
The New York Times ^ | January 2, 2012 | Brian Stelter

Posted on 01/02/2013 4:32:30 PM PST by John W

Al Jazeera on Wednesday completed a deal to take over Current TV, the low-rated cable channel that was founded by Al Gore and his business partners seven years ago.

Current will provide the pan-Arab news giant with something it has sought for years: a pathway into American living rooms. Current is available in about 60 million of the 100 million homes in the United States with cable or satellite service.

Rather than simply use Current to distribute its English-language channel, called Al Jazeera English and based in Doha, Qatar, Al Jazeera will create a new channel, called Al Jazeera America, based in New York. Roughly 60 percent of the programming will be produced in the United States, while the remaining 40 percent will come from Al Jazeera English.

Not many Americans recall the Buddhist Nuns and the sequentially numbered checks on the Lipo bank, donated to Algore’s campaign. Algore couldn't recall the event because he was inside taking a pee, the result of too much ice tea.

Sadly, most American networks don’t cover real news from the USA.

Our job, as unofficial guardians of the Republic, is to remind “many Americans” about Gore’s treason.

Gee: Clinton - Rwanda, Kosovo, etc
Gee: Gore
Gee: Obama - Intifada; Moslem Brotherhood victories in Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, possibly Algeria, possibly Jordan. Al Qaeda in Iraq on the march; AG owns half of Mali, part of Libya, moved into Syria. AQ in Somalia, on the ropes for the moment. AQ in Yemen, on the offensive.
Islamic jihadists in Nigeria slaughtering innocent Christians, and in Egypt and Sinai Peninsula and Lebanon.
Taliban in Pakistan killing police by the score, often by machine-gunning, throat slitting and beheading. Same in Thailand. Taliban in Afghanistan on the rise, again.

Reports of jihadist supporters now in Mexico, Paraguay/Bolivia/Venezuela.

Nothing but treason since Clinton/Gore and Obama/Biden.

The record is there. We need to keep it in the public’s view.

Al Jazeera did not disclose the purchase price, but people with direct knowledge of the deal pegged it at around $500 million, indicating a $100 million payout for Mr. Gore, who owned 20 percent of Current. Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1, according to several people who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

The money quote from the article!

Gore is an hypocrite! (as though we didn't know that already)

The network sold for $500 million.

$500,000,000?!

There is no way that a cable network with sub 0.1 viewers is worth that much.

Looks like another shush fund transaction. I guess that it is the Al Jazeera version of a Benjamin handshake.

Gore Pockets Estimated $100M on TV Sale to Oil-Backed Al Jazeera

"The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that Glenn Beck’s the Blaze inquired about buying Current last year, but was rejected due to ideological differences. Current leadership told the Blaze at the time that ”the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us.” Beck confirmed the inquiry late Wednesday.

I use Al Jazeera a lot for international news in English. I agree with you, they’re classy and well-produced.

I'm in the Philippines and I have to say I'm surprised with their content...

Can I say it?

They seem Fair and Balanced...

Any idea how we can find out the estimated net worth of a cable TV network, or get comparables?

There are complaints about the voices of the moderates not being heard. This is an attempt to provide an outlet for such hearing.

There is one problem. There are only about 12 living rooms in America that ever turn it on

The Bel-Airabs

Or the Bel-Airabs.

Come listen to a story ’bout a man named Ahmed
Poor Camel driver barely kept his family fed.
Then one day- he was shootin’ at some Jews
When up through the ground comes a bubblin’ ooze
Oil that is… Saudi soda.... Persian Perrier

Now the first thing ya know, Ahmed’s a millionaire
Kin folk said: Ahmed, Move away from there!
said: Californy is the place that you’d do fair
So the loaded up their camel and they moved to Bel Air
Swimmin’ pools....movie stars…...Jews....
The Bel Airabs!
