I need to know what kind of pistol to buy for myself. Something small, light and one that won’t jam up. Any suggestions?
Why not get a deer rifle? Like a 30.30 lever action. =) Sorry I couldn’t resist
A Ruger LCR works good. You can get it in 38 special or 357 magnum. The 38 recoil is easy to manage.
With the 357 magnum, you can shoot 38 caliber rounds out of it but you can’t shoot 357 magnum rounds out of the 38 pistol.
It costs 4-5 hundred dollar. My brother tried one and like it. Then he bought the .357 magnum and says its good. He carries 38 rounds in it.
Ruger SR9c or LC9? I’ve been looking too.. I really want an AR-15 lower (only) but they’ve been snapped up! If you have big hands you might not want to go with the ‘compacts’ unless conceal carry is a must.
Just picked up the Ruger SR9C and love it so far, but I only shot it once with about 30 rounds total. However, for me personally, it is the perfect fit and I would definitely buy it again.
If your life depends on it, buy the best.
In addition, get some defensive handgun training and learn how to draw and shoot like a pro.
I agree with Redcitizen. If you are paranoid about a semi-auto jamming(I know the feeling), a small snubby revolver like he mentioned is probably the way to go.

If you want real reduced recoil and are willing and able to practice lots, get a Bersa Thunder 32acp. Light, ten rounds plus one, decocker, reliable, and very affordable. But getting below the 40's range in bullet size means you must practice shot placement to 'decommission' and assailant.
I carried a .22 lr for years and practiced every week making head and bladder shots. The Phoenix Arms I carried was reliable and accurate, but a bit heavy for just a 22lr.
If home defense is the issue, get a nice Ruger 1022 with 16 inch barrel and 25 round mags or a 20 gauge shotgun in pump or semi-auto.
Buy a revolver instead of a pistol if you are worried about a pistol jamming. However, a little practice on a regular basis should solve any problems with a pistol.
