The Bexar County Sheriffs Office is calling one of their own a hero after deputies say she stopped what could have been a disastrous shooting inside a south-side movie theater lobby.
Jesus Garcia, 19, was at the Santikos Mayan Palace 14 at SW Military and I-35 on Sunday night. According to San Antonio police, he was upset over a recent breakup with his girlfriend.
According to both police and deputies, Garcia called into his girlfriend's work at The China Garden restaurant and said he was going to shoot somebody. The restaurant is located outside the theater.
At 9:30 p.m., Garcia walked in and chased all employees and patrons out of the restaurant before firing at an employee as he or she tried to flee, police said. It was not immediately known if the targeted employee was his girlfriend.
Garcia continued to chase the employee from the restaurant to the parking lot outside the theater, firing his weapon along the way. San Antonio police said Garcia also took aim at an officer who pulled up in a marked cruiser. He missed the officer but shattered the officer's windshield.
The chase went into the lobby of the Mayan 14 Theater, where off-duty Sheriff's Sgt. Lisa Castellano immediately sprang into action.
The 13-year veteran quickly moved all patrons out of the lobby and into a secure location, deputies said. She then chased Garcia into the men's restroom, where she and another off-duty police officer cornered the suspect. Castellano then shot the suspect.
The actions she took prevented a lot more people from getting hurt or even worse, killed. said Deputy Chief Manuel Longoria of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
Garcia was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he underwent surgery on Monday. He was listed in critical condition.
He faces charges of capital murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators said there could be more charges once officers finish looking into all the details of what happened.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.
It won’t be. It doesn’t fit the narrative.
She da woman!
And she’s more intelligent, alert, brave and action oriented than the entire dim-bulb-crat crew of clowns in the house and senate.
And she has more cojones than the Dork-in-Chief.
On can only take bets on which way the DORK would have run if confronted with something like this.
Will the county re-imburse her for the cost of the bullet expended?
When will her promotion ceremony take place?
Wanna bet it won’t be covered in the MSM?
Damn!!!!
Another reason we need more “gun control”.
The officer should have exhibited better “gun control” via a more accurate aim & killed that evil filthy swine.
I read in another article that the off-duty sheriff's deputies were moonlighting as security guards at the theater. The theater may have very well been a gun free zone, except for the armed security guards, and therefore, this incident is not as supportive of CCW as it first may seem. (I'm guessing the theater is gun free, which is why armed security guards are neededin the first place.)

Regardless it is very supportive of CCW even if it was security. A private citizen trained with a gun could accomplish the same thing.
That’s a nice argument for the choir, but the gun-grabbers will use this incident to argue that only trained law enforcment professionals need guns.
“Castellano then shot the suspect.”
Wait. Italian cop shoots Hispanic nut? It was racism.
I was in my local mall today with attached theater. After the CO theater shooting they had off duty cops as security. Then no security. Today they has a security guard standing in the lobby. Thankfully he was packing mace to stop any gun wielding madmen form shooting innocent civilians.
Guns save a life every five seconds or so I am told.
He’s charged with capital murder? Who was killed?
That, or I read the story too quickly.
>Garcia called into his girlfriend’s work at The China Garden restaurant and said he was going to shoot somebody.
Why did someone not have an armed lookout posted for his arrival? Are they all stupid? WTF?
Inexcusable and this is how innocent people get killed.
“Off Duty” therefore a law abiding civilian, trained in the use of firearms and with a CCL stopped a madman from causing any, or anymore, harm.
Hmm, isn’t that what we’ve been saying all along? Someone (hello NRA) should advertise this all over the country.
She was off duty, so she was an armed citizen.
Wasn't he a couple of days early?
Cheers!
