Children today grow up with violent video games that shape their adult lives. Not all can handle it.

How many video games did Hitler play? Stalin? Tojo?

When whites were slaughtering American Indians, which video game were they emulating.

When blacks were being lynched, did the (mostly men) who lynched them learn it from playing Xbox or Playstation?

Sorry for the sarcasm, but c'mon. We have a long bloody history behind us, and blaming it on something as new as video games is pushing it.

I read the thread. You are being deliberately obtuse. We’ve established you’re a gun-grabber, we are just trying at this point to plumb the depths of your disease.

I asked you a simple question, and if your reply is a moronic “read the thread,” then I have to assume you think the mother’s guns should have been taken away from her, even though she was sane and had committed no crime. You have accepted the left’s argument in total.

Maybe people will stop bashing men soon. It makes me sick. That masculine figure is so important in a home. Even though my husband died quite young, he had set a good foundation for our children and they have (mostly) married good men or are great husbands.

The gov’t will decide what is crazy. Being conservative will constitute being crazy

Yep, been waiting for some one to bring that up.

Thing is, you would get at least half of the people in this Country to go along with it.

There have been many urban drug addled parents who have let their 2, 3, 5 year old children have access to their guns,

Yes, in the news, they have shot themselves, their siblings or a friend.

I want all Americans to have the right to own guns. I own many. But can we damn a druggie not let one lie on the carpet for their little toddler shoot themselves?

The answer is to fortify the school.

Or cyber school - there are plenty of web resources. Not going to be discussed, because a) the teacher's union won't stand for it and b) many parents rely on the "babysitter" feature of sending them off for the day. Point b) is relevant both for the druggies and other social detritus but also for many career folks who are away at work all day.

Is there anyone who is so psychotic and pathological that you would say, “don’t let that man have a gun”?

The US federal government and its employees.

The mentally ill are already not allowed to have guns. These were not the shooters guns. He stole them.

You are not addressing the cause of this problem, and that problem is THE SCHOOL HAD NO DEFENSES AT ALL. All you are doing is attacking the freedom of innocent people. Knock it off.

You are not going to stop this from happening again. It is going to happen again. The only question is whether or not the victims are going to be defenseless again, and my guess is that they certainly will be, because people are just plain ****ing stupid.

Yes, I agree. If I had children, which I am not going to, I would not send them to school at all.

It seems to me that the purpose of school these days is to utterly destory children, and they are effective at it in a number of ways.

Maybe, just maybe, BunnySlippers, (please at least consider it a short moment) everyone is disagreeing with you because, you, not they, are wrong.

If you can’t reconsider, or still think you are in the right, then it is possible that your idea, being in the minority here, needs to be better defended by you, instead of pitying people or appealing to just read the article.

Of course, but that is MY subjective opinion.

No, I've, as well as others here, have asked how to define it. And more importantly, who is going to define it.

Who would you trust with the ability to start denying God Given rights to others?

How about a "Rights" tsar?

The real point here us, if you can start taking rights from some because you or a majority think it is okay, especially in view of such a tragedy, then they're really not rights....are they? (FFA 1968 ring a bell?)

Where did the shooter get the first gun that he used to kill his mother? Did his mother lock up her guns properly? If not, she certainly should have kept those guns locked up securely considering the severity of her son's mental problems. Lanza's mother may have enabled this massacre by not locking up her guns securely.

Regarding Mayor Bloomberg's comments: If the killer had instead stolen a UPS delivery truck and killed 26 people by driving it into a classroom, would Bloomberg be calling for tighter controls on commercial trucks? Of course not...instead he's be calling for improved mental health programs and more research into drugs to help mentally ill people. It's so obvious, but I'll say it again: If we make ownership of guns illegal, then only criminals will own guns and criminals of course do not follow the law and will use their guns to terrorize and slaughter the disarmed law-abiding people. Enough said...now settle down Bloomberg and try some logical thinking for a change. Possibly we need a way to prevent mentally-ill people from buying guns, but that has to be done very carefully with a strict definition of who is really mentally ill.

If I was a mother who owned guns, and I am.  I would want to make sure my guns were not going to be used against me if my son was an obvious psychopath. Everyone has to gauge this for themselves. It is an individual judgement.

Yes, I see a duty to protect yourself, and a duty to protect the community as well.  And yes, I do believe folks have to judge these things for themselves.  When all is said and done, we mourn for these kids and adults, and those whose loss of them will be catrastrophic.  I feel a great deal of compassion for them.  None the less, we need to keep things in perspective.

We are a nation of 314 million people.  Of that 314 million, we have about 63 million school age (K-12th) children.  The CIA World Factbook states we have 32,050,686 male and 30,719,945 female children aged 0 to 14.  I believe it is safe to assume that there are roughly the same numbers from 5 to 18.  This year, there will wind up being something like a 0.000063492063% (@40) to 0.000158730159% (@100) chance in one of these kids being harmed during an incident like this.  We simply mustn't develop laws that negatively (restrictively) affect 99.999935% to 99.9998% of our populace, just to remedy a situation that affects so few.

That's not a caliced response.  It's a rational objective response.

Maybe she, as a smart woman, thought he was very normal, well adjusted and reasonable.

I suspect she had a pretty good idea what she had on her hands by that point.  I don't think anyone could forsee things going this wrong or they would have had the kid institutionalized.  (If they could.)

At some point you have to realize that in a population base our size, there is going to be the occasional wing-nut out there.

Was this kid assessed properly?  I'm not convinced, but then can you tell which kid will turn violent and which won't?  Sometimes there are no clear-cut answers.

It's tough to admit to ourselves, but there are some things you can't completely eliminate.  Sometimes life will suck terribly.

As children we had to come to terms with things we didn't like, but had to do anyway.  As adults, this still applies.

We should not accept everything that comes down the pike, but we should be adult enough to determine some things are simply unavoidable, if we wish to remain safe in our own homes, or as we go about our daily lives.  The chances are much greater that we or our family members will be victims of crimes in some manner (and even in this manner), than that one of our kids will die in one of these events.

Gun rights should be expanded to the capable law-abiding citizen, rather than restricted further.

Thousands of people are killed every year in small cars when they get hit by much bigger and taller vehicles. So are liberals calling for a ban on small cars? Of course not. Instead they’re implementing much tighter fuel efficiency standards that will make cars smaller and lighter and even more dangerous to drive if the car companies don’t make a major effort to design stronger structural components made with high-strength materials. The focus on gun control is irrational, when many more people are killed in traffic accidents every year. If the government wants to stop gun violence without infringing on our rights and leaving us unarmed in a nation filled with armed criminals, then start a program to publicize the need to lock up guns securely at home. That will stop these awful incidents when young kids shoot each other.

You say the mentally ill are not allowed to have guns. I don’t remember ever having to show even my drivers license.

I have had to show my driver's license and fill out a questionaire, and pay for and submit to a federal background check for every firearm that I own.

I’m not trying to be a jerk, although I’m sure you will accuse me of that ...but are there any measures to keep a psychotic from buying guns?

If you have been involuntarliy admitted to a hospital for the purposes of mental health, you cannot buy a firearm. If you have been found to have PTSD, you cannot buy a firearm nor can you possess one.

Once again, this killer did not buy any of the firearms used. No law would have or could have prevented this from happening. There were laws against everything he did, yet he still did everything he did.

You continue to fail to address to root cause of this massacre WHICH IS THAT SCHOOLS ARE DEFENSELESS BECAUSE OF IDIOT LIBERALS AND THEIR IDIOT LAWS, so I can only assume that your eventual goal is to create more herds of defenseless sheep to be slaughtered by wolves, because you feel like you need to do something that not only is meaningless, it is dangerous.

I suggest that you wake up. You are not helping anything, you are hurting.

If you want children in schools to be safe, then defend the schools. All day, every day, year in, year out. That's all, nothing else.
