Human link to climate change stronger than ever: (IPCC) draft report

LONDON (Reuters) - International climate scientists are more certain than ever that humans are responsible for global warming, rising sea levels and extreme weather events, according to a leaked draft report by an influential panel of experts.

The early draft, which is still subject to change before a final version is released in late 2013, showed that a rise in global average temperatures since pre-industrial times was set to exceed 2 degrees Celsius by 2100, and may reach 4.8 Celsius.

"It is extremely likely that human activities have caused more than half of the observed increase in global average surface temperatures since the 1950s," the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) draft report said.

"Extremely likely" in the IPCC's language means a level of certainty of at least 95 percent. The next level is "virtually certain", or 99 percent, the greatest possible certainty for the scientists.

The IPCC's previous report, in 2007, said it was at least 90 percent certain that human activities, led by burning fossil fuels, were the cause of rising temperatures.

The draft was shown on a climate change skeptic blog.

The IPCC said the unauthorized, premature posting of the draft may lead to confusion because the report was still work in progress and was likely to change before it is released.

A United Nations conference last week aimed at curbing emissions of greenhouse gases blamed for global warning yielded no progress and three countries - Canada, Russia and Japan - have abandoned the Kyoto Protocol limiting the emissions.

The United States never ratified it in the first place, and it excludes developing countries where emissions are growing most quickly.

Countries agreed to extend Kyoto to 2020, but only those covering less than 15 percent of world greenhouse gas emissions signed up. ...

How do you establish a link to “climate change”? What the heck is climate change?

Ummm - except the report says that the Sun was the cause - No?

Is yahoo trying to get ahead of the facts with spin?

The climate is ALWAYS changing.

The sun is the major driver that cancels out all other miniscule factors in that change.

No, the sky is not falling.

Just take a look at the Cretaceous period.

“Only those covering less than 15 percent of world greenhouse gas emissions signed up”...

Maybe because the other 85% aren’t as dumb as a box or rocks?

If the weather isn’t like San Diego everywhere, it’s the fault of man.

Just take a look at the Cretaceous period.

The political zealots promoting this junk science totally ignore the geological record -- if they even know anything about it. Anyone with even an elementary grounding in geological processes and the Earth's violent history quickly realizes AGW is a religion, not a rigorous fact-based discipline.

"The IPCC said the unauthorized, premature posting of the draft may lead to confusion"

No Poopies Sherlock!

We now have at least two absolutely opposite descriptions of the same leaked draft report.

On the other hand, "only those covering less than 15 percent of world greenhouse gas emissions signed up...(to extending Kyoto)". Does give me hope for a rational future.

Climate changes. Nothing is static. The temperature is getting warmer or it is getting colder. If it is getting colder, we’re in a lot of trouble.

They will never give this silly nonsense up, there is too much money at stake.

A single volcano can spew more noxious gases into the atmosphere than all of the people of the world combined in 100 years.

This study is only designed to advance Agenda 21 and scare women, children and very, very, stupid men.

Yahoo is quoting from the "Summary for Policymakers," a dumbed down and distorted "summary" of the real scientific findings. This is the only thing the media ever pays attention to, because it is written in plain easily quoted language, and is the only part of the report the scientifically illiterate media understand.

It contradicts the findings in the scientific chapters, because it is intended for consumption by the powers that control the money(80 Billion $US so far).

International climate scientists are more certain than ever
"climate scientists" are ever going to be less certain?

They already told us they were more certain than ever.

They need to change their BS.

There are three seperate issues here. First there’s the data, collected by thousands of scientists. Then there’s the report itself, written by a few dozen scientists and bureaucrats. Then there’s the summary, written by a handful of UN bureacrats to fit their redistributionist agenda. The media will never look at anything but the latter.
