Glenn Beck Defends Gay Marriage: Republicans Need To 'Expand Our Own Horizon'
Business Insider ^ | 12/11/2012 | Grace Wyler

Conservative firebrand Glenn Beck has joined a growing chorus of Republican commentators in defending gay marriage, laying out a strong case for ending government opposition to letting same-sex couples wed.

"Let me take the pro-gay marriage people and the religious people — I believe that there is a connecting dot there that nobody is looking at, and that's the Constitution," Beck said during a recent segment of his online talk show. "The question is not whether gay people should be married or not. The question is why is the government involved in our marriage?"

While Beck's defense of gay marriage may seem surprising, given his far-right political views and audience, it is actually not new. Earlier this year, Beck said that he has the "same opinion on gay marriage as President Barack Obama" and does not see same-sex unions as a "threat to America."

Still, Beck's public renewal of his support for gay marriage comes at a politically significant moment for the GOP, which is working to reshape its message to appeal to a changing electorate. A Gallup survey released last week found that 53 percent of Americans are in favor of legalizing gay marriage, a number that has been steadily growing for the past decade.

Moreover, by couching his support for gay marriage in a libertarian framework, Beck makes the case for the right to look past differences on social issues in order to broaden their coalition to include all limited government conservatives.

"What we need to do, I think, as people who believe in the Constitution, is to start looking for allies who believe in the Constitution and expand our own horizon," Beck said. "We would have the ultimate big tent."

Here is your beloved GOP...

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/exclusive-president-obama-predicts-gop-cave-taxes/story?id=17937679#.UMf8qINQXYl

The fix is in.

Take some time and seriously consider how happy you have been with the GOP.

Reagan shouldn’t have ever happened, the RNC sabotaged his efforts for decades before he got the nomination...then what did they do...they saddled him with George H (Progressive).

Then we get George W - who is 100% responsible for Obama and 100% for Obama going hog-wild bypassing every check and balance in our system. George W owns that because he did all the same stuff and once both parties do it...to hell with the Constitution and the rules...it becomes precedent and allowed.

Just look at Obamacare, SCOTUS declared it a tax, ALL taxes have to start in the House...oh well not anymore because the POS Boehner doesn’t have the balls to stand up and force the issue.

And here is the fix to ensure that we NEVER have a valid election again!

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-12-11/u-s-should-consider-automatic-voter-registration-holder.html

And the GOP along with Boehner and McConnell will accept this and stand with these criminals.

You sound like a libertarian. You make many of the same arguments they do. If the shoe fits...

You again wrongfully assume that I want the gov to do something for me.

Your cognitive thinking skills need polishing. You still did not address any of the points I made in both my comments to you.

Simply put: Human beings need government of some sort or they descend into robber baron-ism, aka as “the biggest dog makes the rules”.

A fedgov adhering to the duties for said fedgov as detailed in the Constitution would be a very good method. I think we should try it.

Spouting about “getting the government out of private lives” is the Beavis and Butthead philosophy of governance.

Trying to discuss with you is like trying to have a conversation with a schizophrenic who is hearing voices.

Beat straw men to death with someone else.

You’re boring.

What if their church or religion says they can?

This question does not make sense - a man cannot be a wife and a woman cannot be a husband. That is language. Their church or religion can also declare the sun rises in the west and sets in the east - that doesn't make it so...unless they are on Venus.

Don’t get into the theology of your own religion.

If marriage is defined by individual religions, then everything goes.

The Obamanation has had me in a perpetually cranky mood for sure.

Now I can identify with this!

I'm no longer perpetually; just plain ol' cranky.

I think the loss of this election has don't Conservatives a LOT of good!

It has refocused a lot of our eyes on the eternal; where they should be all along; and away from the temporal; which is going to pass away some day anyway.

I think anyone obsessed with any single issue is mentally unstable.

I see two problems:

1. Why do you judge the poster to be OBSSESED?
2. Why do you think it's a SINGLE issue?

lol...I just think the role of government is at the state level not one monolithic federal government that progressives love.

The progressives scream diversity but they turn and crush it every chance they get!

Answer one question...

Do you think the tax code should be used to modify one’s behavior?

Just a reprubate mind,When people can’t tell right from wrong anymore,we are in big trouble.

I read something like that; somewhere...

2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

It is good that you are not a libertarian.

Here is the leftists agenda hidden behind the Libertarian Party curtain.

Libertarian Party Platform:

Throw open the borders completely; only a rare individual (terrorist, disease carrier etc.) can be kept from freedom of movement through “political boundaries”.

Homosexuals; total freedom in the military, gay marriage, adoption, child custody and everything else.

Abortion; zero restrictions or impediments.

Pornography; no restraint, no restrictions.

Drugs; Meth, Heroin, Crack, and anything new that science can come up with, zero restrictions.

Advertising those drugs, prostitution, and pornography; zero restrictions.

Military Strength; minimal capabilities.
