Obama's Power Grab
Creators Syndicate ^ | December 7, 2012 | Betsy Mccaughey

President Obama went over the constitutional cliff this week, demanding more power than the U.S. Constitution allows any president to have. All Americans — regardless of party affiliation — should shudder at the president's attempted power grab and say no. Compromising on taxes and spending is fine, but not on the nation's bedrock principles.

To avert the so-called fiscal cliff on Jan. 1, 2013, Obama is insisting that House Republicans hand over to him Congress's authority to raise the debt ceiling. Obama is demanding a power no other president has ever had — to borrow without congressional prior approval. Under Obama's scheme, Congress would have to muster a veto-proof 2/3 majority in each house, an unlikely feat, to stop the borrowing. Obama's demand would put him in the driver's seat (instead of Congress) with no speed limit.

All 43 presidents before Barack Obama had to get Congress's approval. There's a reason. When government borrows, We the People have to pay it back. Allowing a president to borrow without Congress's consent would be no different from allowing a president to tax us without Congress's consent. The Constitution's framers saw that in Europe, monarchs borrowed and spent to aggrandize their own power, dooming the populace to repay the debt.

To prevent that, the framers allowed only Congress, the branch of government closest to the people, to borrow. (Article 1, Sect. 8). Obama's audacious proposal violates that provision. Yet he doubled down on it on Dec. 5, telling the Business Roundtable that negotiating with Congress "is not a game I will play." Sorry, Mr. President, but negotiating with Congress is precisely what the Constitution requires you to do.

I doubt anyone can say exactly what he would do but the scary thing is what he could do as Dr. McCaughey pointed out in her article.

From the stimulus spending through his Cabinet in his first four years it's clear he loves to spend and I believe that spending would increase and mostly to his friends and supporters.

But the most dangerous thing in my view is the fact he was able to get that Constitutional power from Congress, it would speed up his grab for dictatorial power.

I’m telling you. Before his 4 years are up, he will test the martial law executive order. I just cannot see him wanting to give up power in 4 years and head off to Hawaii and sit on the beach. He gets paid here, plays golf on our dime, mama goes on vacations leaving him free for homo sex with his buds, so he will test this to stay in power. Martial law = no elections.

“When government borrows, We the People have to pay it back.”

Obemba is thinking like a Chicago politician/mafia which is what he is.

The mafia doesn’t kill people who owe them money. They just threaten/break extremities, etc, never kill.

The countries, mainly China, to whom we owe money will not kill us? Is that how he thinks?

From one of the protest signs in Egypt:

“When dictatorship becomes a fact, revolution becomes a necessity”

And one wonders how the Nazis came to power in Germany?!?

Those who supported and voted for Traitorobama are just as guilty of treason as he is for the destruction of the constitution and this country.

Morsi’s shadow (Except Egyptians actually revolt!)

Good one. No, you won't see revolt in this country. The sheeple still have a six-pack & American Idol. They would, however, riot if the umpire makes a wrong call.

Well I guess there are consequences to elections. Maybe he will visit WVa coal fields to demonstrate his authority.

From his rate of spending, and no budget for 3 years I would say that the House has pretty much given up their fiscal responsibility already.

Obama says give a billion to Hamas and Zippety doo da —Hamas gets the money.I havent seen the House stop anything Obama wanted.

“The kenyan has already changed duly enacted laws and ceased to enforced other laws and he has made some laws of his own.”

In Daniel, description of the antichrist:
Daniel 7:25
“And he shall speak great words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.”

When ideology is stripped away the White House, Congress and the Judiciary are just a den of thieves.

When we passed the License to Steal (Income Tax) Amendment we turned our government into a criminal enterprise. Why act surprised when it is full of thieves and crooks.

The half of America that works are slaves to the half that don't.

The only way to cure slavery is through bloody revolution.

Lock and Load!

Why would the Republicans care? They get to spend some as well.

Both parties are in the business of buying votes with your money.

The party hasnt started yet. We are still living in a functioning capitolist sytem looking out at a promise of a utopian marxist system. When peoples 401 K’s are forced into a federal program so everyone can share your retirement then maybe we will see some pitchforks. They have created this crisis.

In his narcissistic mind he believes he got a mandate,

A million or so manufactured votes do not constitute "a mandate".
