New York Times Offers Newsroom Buyouts; About 30 jobs will be eliminated
Adweek ^ | 12/3/12 | Emma Bazilian

The New York Times is attempting to save costs by implementing another round of newsroom staff cuts. According to a memo sent by executive editor Jill Abramson this morning, the newspaper is looking for 30 buyouts among newsroom staff. Over the next few days, Abramson wrote, certain employees will be asked to accept voluntary severance packages. (Newspaper Guild members also have the option to apply for a buyout even if they’re not among those contacted by the NYT.) If the quota isn’t met through buyouts, Abramson will be “forced to go to layoffs,” she said.

Of course there are layoffs . . . how many staff do you need to reprint White House press releases?

The circle grows tighter...soon the sacred cows in the editorial department will be affected. Perhaps they might do a quality assessment and realize that Maureen Dowd has been submitting unintelligible word salads for over a decade.

NY times need to become the Once Upon a Times.

They need to go out of business yesterday.

Nothing would make me happier than to see thousands of jobs lost in the media. The ultimate revenge for gifting Obama with another term. I want to see every single Obama voter suffer the consequences of their lovefest

I hate to see anyone lose their job. But when people are just drones being feed every word to report what good are they? Nothing they write is worth reading anway.

I don’t like people losing their jobs, either. But The Times is a very dishonest paper - and I speak as one of their last subscribers!

Is it so wrong to hope this nasty paper goes out of business? If they do, I’ll switch to The Post.

Expect more large government ads, and official notices (we call that “gazetting” here). That’s a way for government to fund newspapers, without appearing to do so.

Great news!
I would like to see every person who works for the Democrat “mainstream” newsrooms lose their jobs, their homes, and their families. For what they have done to the America I grew up in they deserve nothing less.
