Police officer buys homeless man a pair of shoes [Hold on...we have HOMELESSNESS under Obama?]
WWAY-TV ^ | November 30, 2012 | Katelyn Supa

One tourist's photograph, among the countless snapped every day in the Big Apple, has gone viral. The moment captured is one of generosity, and since it was posted on Tuesday, it has circled the globe and brought a lot of attention to one young New York City cop.

Had it not been for a tourist from Arizona who snapped the photo with her cell phone, Officer Lawrence DePrimo's act of kindness, giving boots to a homeless man, may have gone unnoticed. Tourist Jennifer Foster emailed the photo to the NYPD and they posted it to their Facebook page. Tens of thousands of comments followed.

DePrimo says he had no idea it was going to be such a big deal. The 25-year-old officer was on patrol in Times Square on a cold night two weeks ago when he saw the homeless man with bare feet. He says, "You could see the blisters were about the size of my hands. My heart just went out to this man. I didn't think anything of it. I just went towards him, asked him if he wanted a pair of socks. He said no, but thanks and God bless you for asking. And that I found amazing. Here he didn't even have a pair of socks tohis name and he had the heart to say God bless me. It was absolutely, it was just inspiring."

“Anyone else remember how homelessnes was a big deal when Republicans were in the White House?”

Yes. Since Obama (the first sorta African-American President) has been in office; the Commie MSM has totally wiped away any notice of the things they used to torment “Bush” about. - Now that they need to help Obama get what he wants from the “eeevil” Republicans in Congress, we’ll see a leetle teensy bit of “news” about the homeless to publicize how we “need more programs” and how “heartless” the Republicans are to try to limit Obama’s reckless credit card spending.

You have to have a conspiracy about everything.

Please pardon my cynicism this soon after the elections.

It was absolutely a great Christmas story.

I certainly agree with that.

Jennifer Foster of Florence, Ariz., was visiting Times Square with her husband on Nov. 14 when she spotted a shoeless man asking for change. Foster is the manager of the Pinal County Sheriff's public safety communications center.

Manager of the Communications Center does not a Cop make.

I found a follow up story on this picture. The homeless guy is running a scam. The shop owner said the guy got ten pairs of shoes that day. If I can find the story again, I’ll post a link. What the cop did is still incredibly kind but it seems he may have been duped.

I thought the story that this guy never had a pair of shoes in his life sounded quite fishy.

I do not know where the Arizona “cop” crap came from.
Jennifer Foster of Florence, Arizona who took the picture is a dispatch manager for the Pinal County Sheriff's Dept. I agree that she probably is sympathetic to the cops, but she ain't one.
The story says, she sent the picture to the NYMPH Facebook page. Sometimes, I think some Freepers are way too cynical.

I know a lot of cops on my own department that have reached into their pockets and given people money. On duty. Buying people food and taking kids Christmas shopping.

None of this makes the papers though. You only make the paper when you do something wrong. Oh well, barring economic collapse it’s 2 years til retirement and societal escape.

“And a tourist “cop” from AZ happened to be there to take the pic!”

She was interviewed on FNC this morning. Now, the NY cop is on Fox and Friends.

“You want to quote for me where it says the tourist was a cop?”

Yes the AZ cop on vacation took the picture.

She saw a great moment by someone in her profession and grabbed the chance to document it. She is probably sick and tired of hearing all the negative comments about her profession. Kudos to her.

AZ cops are allowed to take vacations to NY

The story on the ABQ news was that the man had NEVER owned a pair of shoes. Of course I didn’t believe that and went looking for the real story. It is a nice story and I do believe it is true.

In any Dem Presidency all homeless are quickly re-designated “Urban Outdoorsmen”. Homelessness solved!

I sure do. The Democrats said that Clinton would solve that problem. And cure AIDS to boot.

Gee, I don't know the cynicism in regards to cops on this website is breathtaking. I wouldn't be suprised what some think.

I believe you missed my point. I support the police. Another poster noted that it was recorded by another cop on vacation, I didn't see that. I'm sick of all the cop bashing that goes on around here and suspect that many of the bashers were at some point in their life, on the wrong side of the criminal justice system and have a grudge against all cops, although all will deny it vehemently.

Sorry.
Yes it was cop who took the picture.

Hopefully people don’t see that as some type of conspiracy; some probably will, but that’s their problem.

Yes, God bless the officer for his kindness. In his compassion, he looked into the face of Jesus.

Now, where is the outrage over the media lionizing the officer, but ignoring the huge problem the left has caused by allowing the drug/alcohol-addled and mentally ill to roam freely without being involuntarily, but humanely, committed to care and treatment. The Obama-Commie clones are responsible for this, not George Bush.
