Our 4th Quarter FReepathon is now into its 56th day, which I think, is both a heartbreaking shame and also outrageous. Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the whole on the Internet! You all love Free Republic or you wouldn't be here. You all know that we hold FReepathons every quarter to finance Free Republic. What you might not know, or realize, is that our quarterly FReepathons raise the funds to finance that quarter's expenses - the current expenses, so it's hardly right to burden Jim, is it? Ideally, FR needs every member and regular user to contribute to keep Free Republic up and running strong., but sadly, that's not the case. If it were, our FReepathon's would conclude in a matter of a few short weeks. Time and time again, our loyal membership contributes several times, aside from their Monthly Donations, and other loyal members send checks and donate more than once.
Ask yourselves, can you forgo a pizza or a hamburger, fries and shake once a month to Donate Monthly or contribute $20 to FR now to help us get this done? $5.00 a Month makes you a hero here! Think what $10 and more makes you!
We have a New Monthly Donor Campaign wherein generous FReeper Sponsors have donated $10.00 for every New Monthly Donor or New Dollar-A-DAY Donor! Please consider signing up to donate monthly, if you possibly can. We're currently looking for New Monthly Donor #50! No graphic this time, but this is a serious post. I swear to G-d I don’t understand why these freepathons take so long. No matter what happens, when FR is running great, thousands of posts every day, come hell or high water, about any and every subject under the sun and it’s just a given that FR will be here and SOMEONE will be interested in whatever. But let FR slow down, or heaven forbid, stop, it’s like watching a school of fish suddenly make a right turn and head directly for the backup site in a panic. “Is FR down?” “OMG, FR is down!” “Has anyone heard from Jim?” “Is John working on it?” “How long is it gonna be down?”
You can feel the jonesing in the air and the longer FR is down, the worse it gets.
Then at Freepathon time, the school of fish seem to swerve on a different direction entirely. Let someone else do it. The freepathons take longer and longer, but I read posts where someone just bought this or that or something frivolous and I always wonder if they have donated here. Then there are the posts from blog pimps who don’t even link to us who expect free hits from FR most of whom have never contributed a single cent, and that just drives me nuts.
I know a lot of us don’t have much and some have almost nothing to spare, but it doesn’t stop them from soliciting posters for help and ‘donations’ for themselves as they post hundreds of posts from a hooked up computer they MUST be paying to get on the net, but FIVE dollars a month is too much to ask?
It’s wierd that people post from iPhones and tablets with apps that cost a mint but cry poor during the ‘thons.
Every day that the Freepathon goes on, I get more and more frustrated. It’s like waiting for the hurricane to actually hit, or the tornado to be on top of your house before you seek shelter...and then wonder why your kid got blown out into a field.
It just makes no sense to me.
