For the last few years, Donna Pulkrabek was the manager of UT Southwestern Medical Centers Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, a group of scientists and vets and other folks tasked with keeping an eye on how the school treats its animal research subjects, among them dogs, goats, frogs and sheep and mice. It was her job to make sure UTSW complies with Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare guidelines concerning the treatment of animals....

I am so very proud of her for standing up for what is right, risking her job and perhaps even her career!
She has her priorities straight: integrity trumps job security!
For the record, Donna is neither PETA nor vegetarian. Indeed, she strongly supports animal research.
Her lawsuit is also covered in an article in the Dallas Observer and the Courthouse News Service.

Good for her and good luck!
It doesn't make sense to hire someone to keep you legal and then refuse to listen to them.
You shouldn't have to go to court to do the job they asked you to do in the first place. When they fire you for doing what they hired you to do, they demonstrate their lack of integrity for all the world to see.
It takes courage to lay your job on the line when jobs are hard to get.
Did a little subcontracting at UTSW a few years back. Encountered a professor who treated his students like pigs, or worse, in front of me. He was really a nasty piece of work. If they treat animals like the students are treated, the lawsuit has some substance.
Thanks so much for the bump, dear M Kehoe!
Thank you so very much for your encouragements, dear LowTaxesEqualProsperity!

Good for her!
I’m tired of the eco-fascists making it a false dichotomy that it’s either crazy Green socialism, or you’re an evil person who likes to destroy nature and hurt animals.
You can be compassionate towards animals and care about the environment, while supporting science and economic development. I applaud your daughter’s character!
My thoughts exactly. I spoke with some of the students later and told them what I thought of their professor. They told me that not one subcontractor ever came back a second time. I did not go back either.
Thank God that, in this lying culture, there are still people around willing to stand up for what is right, for what is true.
May God ever bless Donna Jean for blowing the whistle on institutional animal abuse at UT!!!
Your pride in your daughter's principled position on this, especially in light of the career risk involved, is entirely justified. May God ever bless her!
Thank you, Donna Jean!
My concern, AG & BB, after reading the article is the part where they suggest that the evidence for their non-compliance is found in faulty paperwork.
I hope there is some kind of injunction that prevents that paperwork from disappearing.
I do think, though, that the quick move to terminate your daughter’s employment with UT also appears to be contrary to the law. That is something I doubt they can wiggle out of.
I would hope that we soon get beyond the need for experimentation on animals..........
In my school years I had extremely low tolerance for un-courteous, incompetent, or otherwise dumbass teachers. I was heavily instrumental in “retiring” at least two of them. Even if I wasn’t the one being mis-treated I took it “personal” and quietly worked to make their own lives somewhat miserable. Maybe I’m an exception but I truly don’t understand students taking cheap krap from teachers. For that matter I don’t understand taking cheap krap from a boss——there are endless ways to make it come out “even”.
“It doesn’t make sense to hire someone to keep you legal and then refuse to listen to them.”
Oh yes it does. It’s called a paid scape goat on hand. What
your daughter is doing is covering her own a$$. If they
would have gotten caught then they would have hung it around
her neck. Good move, smart chick.
I just finished putting three members of family through college. For the most part they were afraid of taking on professors because they could just arbitrarily issue a failing grade and then it is start over. At 25K per degree (local college) you don’t want to start over. College actually makes more $$ on the ones who fail as they collect up front, no refund if you fail. 95% commie professors who preach their liberal politics to their classroom and don’t teach the material. These professors are scum.
I completely agree, dear Shadow44! Thank you so very much for your encouragements!
