i too am 57 and made the same promise to my Mom back in the 80's, she died at home in peace... God bless youNo kidding. This hits home because I'm 57 and taking care of my 84 yr old mother. I made her a promise that she would never go into a nursing home. They come to try and take her out of here and it's going to be ugly.

I hope people understand that knowing your way around your own place and things has inherent value. People live longer because of just that. Uproot them and they are immediately without their bearings.
bad promise...Never make a promise that says never....you have no idea of whet the next ten years or so may entail...do you want to be with her 24/7/365..do you want to change her diapers and feed her every meal , nursing homes can be wonderful places, I visit them often and MOST are more that O.K....please don't condemn them out of hand, your mom may NEED one sooner than you think.
