Rescue crews in Dubai have evacuated a 34-story residential tower after a fire gutted portions of the building.
The blaze on Sunday charred the outside of the structure and send gray smoke drifting over a major development known as Jumeirah Lakes Towers, a cluster of high-rise apartment buildings and shops on the southern edge of Dubai.
Civil defense officials did not give immediate details on the possible cause of the predawn fire.

The building’s power was put in by Stellar Energy based in Houston, TX. Wonder how much stimulus went there.

Why anyone would want to live in anything above the 2nd floor is beyond me. Even if I have to stay in a hotel, I always reserve a 1st or 2nd floor room.

Me, too. Fire crews cannot do much for anyone higher than the 6th floor. I also traveled with a roll of duct tape in case I needed to block any vents, around doors, etc. You have to be prepared to take care of yourself.

I always traveled with an American Lafrance 2000 gallon per minute pumper and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and usually paid for a one alarm assignment of of overtime firefighters wherever I went.

I always freeze myself into a block of ice when I’m staying at a hotel. 3-feet thick all around me. It’s cold, but I’m safe.
