no surprise, the ongoing UN mission to bring peace and prosperity to the Dark Continent no matter how many people they have to kill on either side to do it continues.. Hard to choose sometimes between repressive gubamint or rebels with machetes and ak47s... or worse yet, UN monitored territory which we may someday become
Folks that remember history , say 50 to 60 years ago may remember the bang up jobs they did in the Congo.. shades of 'Benghazi'esque behavior much like Rwanda and how the UN and Clinton regime held their tongues and turned its head when genocide was the order of the day there..
If the UN lives to be 100 , God only knows how many won't make it to 50 , the new 30

Thanks NormsRevenge.
after insurgents gained ground in heavy fighting with government troops... the rebels have advanced to within 30 km (18 miles) of Goma, the closest they have been to North Kivu's provincial capital since a rebellion exploded in the eastern provinces eight months ago.

The U.N. doesn't have attack choppers. Rather, the national military units pledged to the U.N. mission in the Congo do. A quick Google search seems to indicate that the helicopters belong to the Ukraine, which has four Mi-24s stationed there.

Which side is which?
Why is the UN taking sides anyways?

There has been bloodshed and violence in Congo since I can remember. I’d say that the only thing that’ll save Congo is a healthy dose of recolonization. The Belgians were pretty brutal, but there wasn’t any of this wholesale slaughter.

It is more likely that Belgium will become a colony of the Congo than the other way round.

The Belgians were pretty brutal, but there wasnt any of this wholesale slaughter. I suspect that the Belgians had a correct estimate of the level of force needed to keep things under control there.

It’s equally likely that Belgium will be swallowed up by the Moslems. Sad to see a civilized country fall into that trap. My late mother-law-was born there so my wife is half Belgian. I drove through it one afternoon.
