A male mountain lion was shot by a deer hunter Saturday, November 10th, the opening day of the November firearm deer season. The incident occurred about 10 miles northeast of Ainsworth in Brown County.
The hunter reported the shooting to a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission conservation officer. According to the hunter, the cat walked parallel to him at about 35 yards as he left his hunting blind, made eye contact with him, then circled in front of the hunters path. A subsequent investigation concluded the hunter was justified in killing the 150-pound animal.
By law, a person may kill a mountain lion without a permit only if it stalks, attacks, or shows unprovoked aggression toward such person or another person, or if it is in the act of preying on livestock. Unlawful killing of a mountain lion is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and up to three months in jail.
Does he get to keep it?
I suppose its like a tonic to heart, being scared like that -- now he won't need to go on that holiday he can't afford anymore anyway!
Mountain lion was sizing the hunter up for a place on his den wall. Yummmm....
Fortunately a hunter knows when he is being stalked, a jogger would have been lunch.
I don't go into wilderness areas without a firearm anymore.

“...a jogger would have been lunch.”
Nah, jogger’s 5oz pepper spray or ‘bell’, would have dropped the cat and saved him. LOLMAO!
He could have just dialed 911 on his ObamaPhone.
A cougar came near our camp area in Montana summer of last year. Fortunately, it passed us on by after a few minutes. It was apparently more interested in a deer that had run behind us.
Last month, my dog started to confront a large cougar while we were walking through the woods by the house. Fortunately my dog stopped while I ran toward the stare down with my .38 at the ready. The cougar saw me coming and headed for cover. Dog followed but not too far. I thought he was a goner, he usually chases but not this time. The cougar is still around, saw tracks in the snow yesterday. My neighbor got a shot at him but missed at 300yds. Cougar needs to move on, he’s being hunted by at least two guys.
That’s why I always carry a knife.
They want me it’s gonna be a fight to the death and I intend on gutting them alive.
Their last meal will be their own entrails...
I wouldn't go up against my housecatz with anything smaller than a 12 ga. Anything worth doing is worth over-doing.
I'm allergic to getting hurt. ;)

Well, that’s my minimum. I do my 3-5 mile walk at in my neighborhood and I’ve seen cats.
Little difficult to carry a 12 gauge while exercising and the 7 cops who live in our gated golf course community have guns and I wouldn’t wanna be shot by them.
In the wilderness I carry my .38.
My 45’s are all 5-6 BBL and a little unweildy.
I should get a 357 though....
I understand cougar poop has bells in it and smells like pepper spray.
I wonder what the autopsy will show, in that their fish & game will almost certainly want to autopsy it. Rabies, feline leukemia and feline distemper might provoke a big cat, but they are just as likely to be aggressive even if they are not mothers with a litter.
“a fight to the death and I intend on gutting them alive.”
LOL.... good luck with that. The mountain lion may have the same plan for you.
Don’t forget, these guys kill for a living. Cougars live in my area and are occasionally seen in my neighborhood. Fortunately, it is out of the ordinary for them to stock humans.

You must have BIG cats!
I know! They are programmed and only their death will stop them.
I’ve made up my mind that’s the way it’s gonna end.
YES!
I was hoping someone would post Jimbo.
I’ve had more than a couple of near encounters w/cougars and the first ran off when I turned and went towards it. The second was up in a tree and I left well enough alone.
Third time was right here where I live, I was out picking blackberries and felt that I was being watched.
Someone coming down the highway later saw it cross.
A friend of mine who lives in a trailer park (nice one) says that she has one who she has seen several times just laying on a log near a creek. It seems to be just watching all those crazy two-legged critters.
Here in MI, they seem to be content to share space. I’ve only heard of a couple of livestock attacks but then we’re overrun with those rats with antlers so they have plenty of food available.
