30 States Petition Federal Government to Secede After Election

Liberals often like to compare President Barack Obama to former President Abraham Lincoln. The comparison is usually dismissed as laughably hagiographical, but judging by one unexpected bit of fallout from Tuesday’s election, it could well end up being accurate in just one respect: Like Lincoln, Obama is facing requests by the citizens of numerous states to secede from the union.

However, unlike with Lincoln, these requests are peaceful, and highly unlikely to do anything at all except generate news headlines. A massive number of petitions are currently circulating on Change.org, a website designed to call for action by the federal government or by private institutions on particular causes, calling for particular states to be granted permission to secede.

Nor are they confined to the usual suspects (IE the Southern States). In actuality, the mix of states asking to secede is deeply bipartisan, ranging from the deeply red (Alabama and South Carolina) to the deeply blue (New York) to the swing (Pennsylvania). Nor are the states asking to secede in any way geographically clustered. Northern states (New York), Midwestern states (Michigan), Southern states (Alabama) and Western states (Nevada) have all filed petitions of their own. Most swing states this election cycle, with the exception of Ohio, have a petition of their own, and all of them have at least 1,000 signatures, with even some of the bluest states in the union easily keeping pace with their red counterparts.

Is this simply the product of a few thousand discontents in each individual state? Perhaps. But Texas’ petition has over 40,000 signatures, well over the 25,000 necessary to reach the attention of the President. If this turns out to be more than the discontented murmurings of a single state, this story may get ugly.

Additionally, here is a list of all the states with petitions to secede on WhiteHouse.gov:

Delaware California Ohio Nevada Pennsylvania Arizona Oklahoma Arkansas South Carolina Georgia Missouri Tennessee Michigan New York Colorado Oregon New Jersey North Dakota Montana Indiana Mississippi Kentucky Florida North Carolina Alabama Texas Louisiana

Of course he can’t be for the idea - until he is pushed to have a binding state referendum on the idea. (to put an end to this petition non-sense)

I’ll never sign anything on that web site because I don’t want anyone associated with this admin to know what I think about them. They know enough already.

alternatively since there are thirty and a majority, they should purge the remaining 20 from the union.

30 States did NOT petition for secession. Some people signed some petitions. Big difference.

We need to close ranks, unite our fractions and fight the socialists within. The GOP should be screaming out-loud about all of these things that the Obama administration is doing. The GOP should admit publicly that apart of the democratic party seeks America as a communist region. I know it’s sounds extreme for our leaders to do this but eventually, someone has got to say it on the national stage. Now, we are watching this remake of America to continue without any substantial objections. The GOP has been to blame for a lot of this since they govern as political correctness politicians. What has this approach given us!? Get angry, go back to the principles of the country/heck to media/they will never accept us. Don’t let the media break your will or to conform you.

Why? Who/What would be causing the ugliness?

If libs are behind this, it could be intended to lead to a Constitutional Convention, which the Left would just love so they could write us a new constitution.

I don’t think so, however.

Ohio does have a petition up, it was put up last evening, and currently has about 100 signatures.

Please encourage your contact lists to sign on, as well. All support is appreciated.

Time to start a petition to have the signers of that petition publicly mocked for thinking it’s unpatriotic to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

“Now I read there is a petition to take the signers of the secession request, strip them of their citizenship and deport them. Anyone surprised?”

These leftist worms wouldn’t have the guts to crawl out of their holes and deport anyone. Sometime, when you haven’t a thing to do and are feeling feisty, follow a leftist into a dark parking lot with no witnesses around and question his 20 IQ ameba brainpower and call him a Nazi. Be sure to leave space when he starts peeing in his pants.

Geez, these American leftists are friggin’ cowards and wimps. Prepare to kick their arses. We’re about to enter phase #3 of the imminent civil war II.

Nothing to see here.
If they won’t or can’t deport the illegals in the US
why should they deport peaceful protesters????

TX & AZ have an enormous list of things in common, my friend. I traveled AZ many years and loved the people there.

I do not support secession, yet.

“Has the election of a president ever generated any petitions, let alone this many, in the past? “

These petitions mean nothing. I can sign a petition for a New York secession, for instance. These are not binding and not important. I’d put up one demanding that the UN move to the Falklands, but I don’t want to sign up at the WH.

As for your question, this is the first time the White House put a “create any petition you want” page on their website. Washington’s webpage had nothing like it, nor did Reagan’s!

Yeah, Mr. Perry said it won’t happen. We need to be signing a recall petition.

I will be sure to vote one more time. It’ll be against the retard Perry. And I really do think there’s something mentally wrong with this man.

What’s needed are petitions to recall every rino and boner if they negotiate with obama. And the petitions should be originated in each politician’s district.

I like your idea better. Forget about seceding from the US for now. For instance, IL could secede from Cook County and join up with Indiana. There are big differences in how people live in Chicago and how they live in downstate IL. They just don’t fit together anymore, yet Chicago controls the state and wins the elections for their crooks to run the state. It would scare the crap out of the Feds. These petitions are silly.
