Obama holds firm to tax hikes as he invites Hill leaders to talks on 'fiscal cliff'

President Obama, claiming his election "majority" was a vindication of his fiscal policy, held firm Friday to his intention to include tax hikes for America's top earners in any negotiations with Congress to pull the nation back from the so-called "fiscal cliff."

The president, in his first remarks from Washington since winning a second term, urged officials to "get to work" on the issue as he invited congressional leaders to the White House next week. He said he's open to "compromise," but did not appear to budge on what has been a central disagreement over the last two years -- whether to extend the Bush-era tax rates for everyone, or to let them lapse for households making more than $250,000.

"I refuse to accept any approach that isn't balanced," Obama said Friday. "This was a central question during the election ... and on Tuesday night, we found out that a majority of Americans agree with my approach."

"Our job now is to get a majority in Congress to reflect the will of the American people."

"Our job now is to get a majority in Congress to reflect the will of the American people."

Our job is to now remove the houses of Congress so I can rule by fiat.

Looks like Boehner's attempts to kiss Bathhouse Barry Benghazi's butt got him a big slap across the face. I guess Barry is not that kind of girl.

God help us. He was such an insufferable bastard in his first term, this one will be truly insane.

The private sector is being guided to the “fiscal cliff” by his policies.

The Obama Plan:

1.) Get stupid Republicans to vote for a tax increase.

2.) Run Democrats against those Republicans and attack the stupid Republicans for “raising taxes”!

a majority of Americans agree

Bull, I've heard this in the press too, he didn't win by that much, and not everyone voted.

What would be the danger/benefit of having everyone in the GOP vote “present?”

"I refuse to accept any approach that isn't balanced,"

Here we go again. "Balanced" another way to say "my way".

Of course the MSM will interpret this statement as republican intransigence.

Just like when Republicans voted for the bail-out and Democrats in conservative districts got the opt-out OK by Pelosi.

“We’ll be happy to meet as soon as you submit a detailed, balanced budget as a starting point.”

“...The private sector is being guided to the “fiscal cliff” by his policies...”

::::::::::::::::::

And this is nothing new. His agenda was to destroy America as it was. Nothing has changed — and it will get MUCH worse. He was a Stalinist/Marxist that hated America BEFORE he was elected in 2008. More destruction to come including the Constitution.

That's funny, Congress is a co-equal branch and more than 50% of voters re-affirmed a GOP House of Representatives which does not support higher taxes. Sorry BO, no mandate for you!!!

Maybe Harry Reid will bring one to the floor for the first time in 4 years.

Or maybe not.

The faux majority is that the majority to which the British Barrister Barak Obama refers?

Let the “Bush” tax cuts expire (the ones that this president and Congress extended - why aren’t these the “Obama” tax cuts? - don’t answer), and let sequestration take place. I and most everyone here is not a fan of higher taxes, but if it means spending gets slashed by 10%, fine. Pisses me off that spending isn’t considered as critical as income taxes.

"This was a central question during the election ... and on Tuesday night, we found out that a majority of Americans agree with my approach."

Wrong. If the American People agreed with Herr Obama, they'd have elected a Democrat controlled House of Representatives on Tuesday. They didn't.

Obama has no mandate, period. The only mandate the American people voted for is in fact GRIDLOCK. There can be no other rational, sane conclusion to be drawn from this election.

That means Mr. Boehner you best hold the line on NO TAX INCREASES, PERIOD or you lose the house in 2014.
