After Obama win, U.S. backs new U.N. arms treaty talks

(Reuters) - Hours after U.S. President Barack Obama was re-elected, the United States backed a U.N. committee's call on Wednesday to renew debate over a draft international treaty to regulate the $70 billion global conventional arms trade.

U.N. delegates and gun control activists have complained that talks collapsed in July largely because Obama feared attacks from Republican rival Mitt Romney if his administration was seen as supporting the pact, a charge Washington denies.

The month-long talks at U.N. headquarters broke off after the United States - along with Russia and other major arms producers - said it had problems with the draft treaty and asked for more time.

But the U.N. General Assembly's disarmament committee moved quickly after Obama's win to approve a resolution calling for a new round of talks March 18-28. It passed with 157 votes in favor, none against and 18 abstentions.

>>Ammo sales are going to skyrocket!<<

For good reason. They won't likely attempt a weapon confiscation, rather limit the sale of ammo or go for cost prohibitive approach.

Weapons = freedom

With a Senate that most likely will ratify any resolution that takes away our rights? They’ll do it.

I hear every point you make.

I’m not as good as you with numbers but I did look at counties here and republican counties voted more than 2008, hell Romney won two more counties than obama.
Oh 5% union votes up, ,
VA military votes evenly split, there is no way that is true

You know all about it as I;ve pointed out some points but I will say one thing which another FL freeper said earlier to me and thta was when they were out waiting to vote the media at 7.00pm were already calling FL for obama.

They the media did point out people from the panhandle were voting but still said obama got this state.
I think one big injustice was in the Dem counties in Broward and Miami dade where people were in line, Poll workers went about to people in line and gave them ballots to fill in and then drop off or mail in.

>>I predict epic failure for Obama trying to enforce any UN gun control treaty on Americans.<<

The way I'm seeing it, there will be a multi-pronged approach.
1. U.N. small arms treaty
2. Possibly 2 supreme court justice nominations
3. Executive order instituting weapons ban and or national registration.
4. Regulation through obozocare increasing taxes on weapons and ammunition, labeling them health hazard. Attempt to create a cost prohibitive atmosphere.

It will happen and it will happen soon.

Consider this. Two years before mid-term elections. The possibility of losing the senate is forefront in the socialist minds.

They will accelerate their agenda.

If they accelerate they may lose the ability to steer, though. I truly hope they render themselves truly odious in time for 2014 Congressional elections. Historically these off-year elections are back-lashes against the party of the administration.

Who is leaving SCOTUS?

Ginsberg next? Obama gets to replace super lib for super lib.

I heard Scalia and Kennedy are staying on beyond Obama.

What some seem to forget that he will appoint the next 4 SCOTUS judges and bet you donuts they will be the most rabid anti gun people he can find...Plus these anti gun groups have teams of lawyers working as we speak on cases that will be fast tracked to the Court to overturn existing gun laws....mark my words!

>>Historically these off-year elections are back-lashes against the party of the administration.<<

That is exactly my point. The most aggressive agenda will happen before these elections.

If they keep the senate, then they will just carry on with their agenda. By lolly gagging until the election, they risk losing the senate, Obozo and the liberal socialist will become neutered, thus halting their march toward a socialist state.

Why would they not hit the gas pedal at this point...that would be my advise to the conservatives if they were in power.

The House will be by-passed every way possible..plus they have control of the Senate and they can pass treaties and appoint federal judges....

And yet if they overplay, they risk being sloppy about it.

Well if he grants 16+ million illegals Citizenship that gives the Democrats a very nice pad of protection against the GOP or any backlash by Gun Owners...remember Whites will be the minority if not already...

“If anyone knows of a mutual fund that focuses on gun comapnies pls advise.”

There aren’t enough to make a mutual fund. The only public companies I know of are Ruger (RGR) and Smith & Wesson (SWHC).

There’s also Alliant Tech Systems (ATK) which, among other things, makes Federal, CCI, and other ammo, and runs the Lake City ammunition plant for the fedgov. And Olin (OLN), which, among other things, makes Winchester ammo.

The only ones worried about something like this is the damn republicans.

The socialist play hardball. Be nice to see our side use a few plays from their book.

Were on the same side, so I respect your opinion. Mine is no more valid than yours, but I get this gut feeling that it’s full steam ahead for these folks.

Oh they may well do that. I just hope they commit many blunders in the process.

That would need actual legislation that would have to get the House’s nod... I don’t think so, not even with Boehner.

Hell, they already did...Fast and Furious. lol

They were trying a two pronged initiative.

Try to locate drug/gun runners, then blame American gun stores for selling the weapons after.

Oops a daisey...backfire!

“Fat figured it again.”

I’m trying to decide if that was another case of fat fingers, or intentional.

Either way, that’s darn funny.
